💬 Is This US Open Any Fun to Watch?

I really believe you don't get this tournament.

And, for clarity's sake, The Open is played across the pond.

Oh, I get the one on TV right now, just fine. And tell clarity to get over it.
You get the one on TV right now--Sunday--because it is not the US Open.

There is only one Open. These things, while seemingly minor to you, define who follows the sport.

Dumbing down a course because guys are having a hard time is weak. More than that it is disappointing. One, because the USGA caved to some of the writers. And two, because these guys were complaining about having to play a tough course.

This is where following the Crimson Tide all these years may have prepared me for just this moment.

Players complaining about how tough something is to accomplish? And which part of following the Tide resembles that?

The course wasn't all that tame on Sunday for the afternoon bunch. Koepka played the last round in -2 and won the thing at +1. If any of the leaders in the last few groups could have just broken par they could have won the tourney. Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed were great examples of guys getting rewarded for shot making but still couldn't find their putting stroke on those greens. It wasn't the John Deere Classic.

Fleetwood got a little earlier start with even more moisture on the course and less pressure from the final round lights and played great. But as so many have stated on here, playing earlier with more moisture and less wind is just the luck of the draw.

Didn't they add the fescue just for the US Open?
I read something along those lines including new irrigation put in as well. It was the primary grass type when they were there several years ago as well. BUT, there's a number of different strains of Fescue.

What's of note here is the greens were Poa Annua. Tiger was quoted as hoping putting on those greens would pull his game back together. There are a number of PGA tourney's played on those greens (where we see things like Bentgrass more often on the southern swings.)

BTW, Poa Annua is another grass type considered a weed in the south...see it in the winter and spring months before the grass comes out of dormancy. The heat during the month of May burns the grass off/out.

but the place looked like some of the old pastures I grew up playing on back in the day.
Assuming you grew up in the southeast that makes a lot of sense. Fescue, one of the primary grass types there, is considered a weed in most of the south.

Our courses were affectionately named Lakeside golf course between Oakman and Parrish Alabama was "The Pasture", Union Chapel Golf course just east of Jasper on Highway 78 was "The Rock" and Twin Lakes in Jasper was "The Clover Field," and Percy Marcum in Corner was/is "The Hills" .... if you have every been to any of those, you know how they got their names for obvious reasons. :-)... Now we have Horse Creek in Dora, that is one fine golf course.
