Maybe Russia wanted to bed with the party that sees them as the bigger foe, odd strategy.

Trump appointed a new director who came in day one and began working on the current year budget even though we were 3+ months into the year. Yes, he's a former private sector business guy with zero political or government job experience. He's trimmed 25% off our budget for the first year and plans another 10% of reduction for fiscal 2019. It's a very welcomed style for many of us as there is ample waste here just like most agencies. We receive no subsidies or tax dollars, but we do return our excess funds to a main department at the end of each year and it's usually in the $10's of millions. It will be going up significantly at the end of this year and should continue for the following 3, at least, in addition to his plan to lower the costs paid by our private sector "customers/clients". Folks wailed doom and gloom when Trump announced he was bringing in an outsider, but when you operate in the same archaic ruts for decades with leaders that come in and continue status quo, it's not always a good thing. Reducing waste is important to me and I know this same scenario is playing out in other agencies. Yes, the latest budget still produces a large deficit, but I'm confident that will not be the case within a year or 2 at most. Not really sure anyone ever said it was boosting our economy. He has said it was to stabilize employment and get Americans back to work. With tariffs, it will create more need for jobs to produce in America. You can bring out an Economics 101 comment, but what you're insinuating is not the point of the tariffs. We owe a lot to China and they own a lot of this country as well, so why would we not want to work on being more self-sufficient while making lives in this country better?
