My son had a knee injury last Thurs night that the orthopedic said was a sprain. He was hit on his knee with a helmet/facemask and he was done after about three more plays. He had to be carried off of the field beforer half time. By the end of the game, he had swelling and fluid on the knee. The ligaments were strained due to force of the blow, but all intact. The orthopedic told him to wear a knee brace (the kind that has no metal, just a neoprene sleeve) to keep the swelling down. The fluid is the body reacting trying to heal the knee, and as of yesterday, the fluid was minimal. Today he is supposed to jog on it to test the pain level. If he can jog with little or no pain, then he is supposed to try to start making cuts. If he can do that, he can play Friday night. Under no circumstances, is he to take a hit to the knee or run the ball in full contact drills during practice. After practice, he is supposed to ice his knee, whether he thinks he needs it or not.
Hopefully, this is what happened to Andre. You or I would be laid up for weeks, but kids tend to heal alot faster than we do. Honestly, my son should sit a week to be safe, but I know just as sure as I'm sitting here, he will say there is no pain today so nobody even gets a chance to step into his spot. Andre has more riding on healing up than he does playing against Tulane.
