🏈 Is it just me, or is our QB the worst we've had since Spencer Pennington?

No, it's you. Pennington was thrust into the role when Croyle went down. He never seemed to play with passion.

The QBs today want to win and show their passion. They're not perfect by any means, but they want what is best for the team.

You know when you and the family can't decide on what's for supper, and you debate so long you wind up with a sub-par meal? ( You wind up "rush-thawing something frozen from the freezer, or late at your favorite restaurant and the food is not so great because the cooks are feeling tired and rushed, or worse yet, you wind up at a Mc'Drive-Thru...)
Well, let me show you what happens when coaches do the same thing trying to decide beween two or five QB's and neither none get enough quality reps in practice or in games.
The ULM game was nothing more than a glorified scrimmage for our offense, trying to get in some previously wasted reps for our QB's. We are now rush-thawing our QB because we didn't thaw him out in time.
Make sense?

Rush thawing, you say?

Coker didn't pick up a football last week or even last month. He's probably thrown thousands in his life, Seminole camp, Bama camp, high school, and every backyard game with dad and or high school buddies in the park since he could pick one up (a football I mean... not a park. LOL. Excuse the dangling modifier) And this...... THIS LEVEL of ability is all he's got to show for it. Jeeez....frickin' 3rd string freshy no-name Bucknut Cardelle wins the BCS and while Coker is still..... ahhh y'know. I sure hope Coke-ster gets a Masters degree in something. In about 5 months.. he's going to need it.

You do realize that there is a HUGE difference between "camps" and first string practice reps...right? In "practicing"...and practicing with the guys you will actually be playing with on Saturday night. I know it's true in the military, and in fire fighting, EMS, SWAT.... pretty sure it has something to do with practicing and playing as a team. Don't read too much into the analogy. And learn some football before you quoate me and cpomme back with some some snarky ass shit that shows what a fool you are. BTW Cardelle had the game of his life, just like a certain drunkard that played QB as a Cock. It happens. We just notice it happening more when it happens against us. How many times did he make a bad throw? How many times were there dropped passes by receiver who were hit right where they should have been? How many times did a defender blow through our porous O line? ( the oen that has 19 year kid for an LT? Im not saying Coker is Great, yeah he screwed up. But so did many others, including the way the coaching staff has handled this whole debacle of an offense. Again, I'm not making excuses, btu Im damn sure looking at some reasons.

If Coker didn't have the interceptions, he'd be on par with McElroy's & McCarron's first years. There were countless 3 & outs for them but by the end of the 3rd quarter, the offense was man handling folks. We can say he is a senior all we want, yada, yada but there is nothing like playing time.

I honestly think if Coker can be told to just manage the game, no sacks, no turnovers, we'll be fine. Also, the bigger question to me is about Kiffen. Does he have the patience to play call a slow killing offense & take some pressure off the QB?

Yes, I think right now Coker is not as good as Croyle, Wilson, McElroy, McCarron and Sims. Those five all rank in the top 10 in career records at Alabama. Spencer Pennington (as well as Mark Guillon and Brandon Avalos) was thrust into games due to injuries to the starter (Croyle). Pennington played hard, took some major hits, but was a better baseball player than QB. I appreciate Pennington's contributions and his willingness to take on a role that most of us would kill to assume. After being pressed into action, Pennington got better as the season progressed, with his two best games his last against aubrun and Minnesota. He made the list of 200 yard games in the record book in those two games.

Compared to these top five passers in all of Alabama history, Coker is less accurate and has a tendency to lock in on receivers. Is it possible to always have someone who will occupy the uppermost tier of Alabama records? Perhaps not, but it sure won't stop us from complaining about it.

RTR,

Tim

Stop making excuses for Coker. It's a sport. You have an ability for it or you don't. And as for analogies.... MMA fighters don't practice for their title shots with their real opponents; they practice in quiet gyms, with punching bags and trainers and stand ins, but when the big night comes they better damn well be skilled or they'll be kissing canvas.

Bottom line.. I am not convinced Coker is cut out to be a QB in any sense of the word "successful" or "Sunday". But you think what you want.

Coker had the one terrible, under duress throw, but had the five or so drops that were pretty easy catches been caught this would not be a topic of discussion. Sunday player, probably not, but you can win at the college level without an NFL caliber QB.

Not really, neither McCarron or McElroy were this inconsistent with the accuracy and both had a deep ball about 20 times better than Coker. He literally cannot complete a pass over 20 yards in the air. Its been miserable everytime he takes a shot deep.

Did you really just compare football with MMA? :doh2:

My point is he is the worst qb I've seen play at UA that I can remember. Everyone seems to be making excuses but the dude is extremely inaccurate. Even on bubble screens, etc the receiving corps is having to make jumping catches, screwing the entire rythem of the play. Whoever is comparing and saying he's just as good as McElroy or McCarron is drinking the kool-aid too much. Hell the AU quarterback had more confidence, looked better in his first start than Coker.
