Also, the College Football Playoff was 100% Nikes sponsored teams this past year.

I just looked up the last 13 NCAA football champs (12 of 13 were Nike sponsored). Keeping in mind, Nike has deals with 68% of the power 5 conferences. 4 of the 14 teams in the SEC have deals with others (Auburn - Under Armor, Miss State - Adidas, South Carolina - Under Armor, and Texas A&M - Adidas).

Your timing is a bit ironic, Matt. I'm mixing two forums here with this post...so, mea culpa.

I recall reading about our Nike deal a few years ago. I want to say it was following the title in 2009. Coach Moore negotiated one of the larger deals for apparel, with Nike, for somewhere around 30 million over an eight year period (cash and product.) Keep in mind, that's for a few of the programs. (Softball, golf, etc., have different deals in place.)

Alabama's contract with Nike places them in a very unique position with them. The average payout on licensing is around 8%. UA signed their new deal guaranteeing a 12% commission on apparel sales, received a 2 million dollar "signing bonus," and of course the free clothing/shoes for players and coaching staff members.

As a comparison...basketball conversations have centered around Gregg Marshall and Wichita State. After their winning streak last year Nike made a deal with the school for free apparel and shoes. There wasn't any monetary deal. Clothing only.

Other comparisons. Michigan's received almost 7 million (signing bonus) when they switched from Nike to Adidas a few years ago.

Michigan's contract with Adidas reads...

"If during the Term, adidas grants to or contracts with any college or university ... that provides for more favorable average annual value ... than the current University (of Michigan) average annual value specified in this Agreement ... then adidas agrees to make a written offer to grant to the University that same more favorable average annual value on the same terms and conditions that were offered to the other college or university within thirty (30) days of the execution of such other agreement".​

Michigan struck gold on that contract...

The Notre Dame-Under Armor deal was a big one as well.

Everyone knows Nike is the top dog. All of the kids want to wear Nike. They're always on the cutting edge, creating marketing plans revolved around these kids, and they have most of the top athletes working for them. All of the free clothes and shoes makes a difference believe it or not. That's why I always add this stuff into the scholarship amounts, because the shorts they're wearing to work out in and when they go in shells, cost the rest of us $70. The Sugar Bowl sweatsuits, $180 just for the jacket. It makes a big difference with these guys. I just can't believe Michigan and at one time Notre Dame went to Adidas.

I wouldn't mind having the ability to walk into a room, filled with Nike shoes, and pick a pair of my choice to wear around everyday. Or shirts, sweats, shorts, hats...

Easily you could hit a 2-3K mark on clothing these guys get. Easily.

Before we had NIKE, players weren't catered to with all of this apparel. We did get different cleats to wear though. I had 4-5 pairs. Our sweats were from Russell. Remember when Russell was the big dog in sports apparel?
