TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama head coach Nick Saban provided injury updates on a trio of players shortly after the Crimson Tide’s 49-7 win over Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon.

The first two players he addressed were placekicker Will Reichard and defensive tackle DJ Dale, who both went to the locker room at Bryant-Denny Stadium and did not return to the field.

Will Reichard has a pulled hip flexor, which, as a kicker, may be difficult for him to manage,” Saban said in a press conference. “He did it on the kick that sort of kicked the tee instead of the ball. He may be questionable for this game.

DJ Dale, I think, is going to be OK. He had a little like patellar tendon strain, but doc thinks he may be OK. Hopefully, we get some guys back for this game. We’ll just have to make day-to-day decisions during the course of the week as to how much they can practice.”

After kicking the first two extra points in the game, Reichard walked to the locker room earlier in the second quarter under his own power and was replaced by Joseph Bulovas. Bulovas kicked the final five PATs. Dale left the game just before halftime and was replaced by Phidarian Mathis, who registered one tackle and forced a fumble that was recovered by safety Jordan Battle.

Linebackers Terrell Lewis and Markail Benton did not play Saturday and instead watched the non-conference game from the sideline in street clothes. Saban did not have an update on Benton.

As for Lewis, he was not at Tuesday’s practice and appeared limited during the media viewing periods Wednesday. The redshirt junior left the South Carolina game last week but was able to return the next series. After the game, he said that his knee “just got banged up a little bit.”

But after the Southern Miss game, Saban revealed a much different story.

“Terrell hyper-extended his knee in the last game, so it was a strategic decision that needed to get made relative to if they do a procedure that sort of helps the healing process now or wait until the bye week,” Saban said. “So, we always are going to do things relative to what’s in the best interest for the player. We kind of left it up to Terrell. He wanted to do it and try to get well as soon as possible. So, I would think by next Tuesday, we’re hopeful that he would be able to be back in the swing of things and doing thins the right way and be able to play next week.

“But it’s always going to be day-to-day in terms of how he responds to the treatment.”

Alabama will next host the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. CT (CBS).

My expectations of making the Playoffs are non-existent right now. We seriously may not even have half of our starting defense for LSU. We are going to need 50 points a game, for sure.

Do not want to go there yet, hoping injured players get better and the D improves a lot (experience will help). On a positive note if we need to score 50 points a game we have the horses to do it consistently.

Beating LSU and The Barn is going to be a struggle with this defense. A&M is going to give Bama all the want as well.

I just don't have a great feeling for some reason. I'm not seeing the level we have been at for the last ten years. I could be wrong, and hope I am, but I just want to see it soon.

I get it. At this point this team is not at the same level as past teams. The D and running game are average but the passing game is elite. We don't have to play LSU (they gave up 38 points to Vandy) and the Barn for awhile.

Think back on Clemson last year. They looked very beatable especially after Syracuse. Much different team by the end of the year. These D players are getting experience. They have talent but they are young. I still think (Brown coming back) the OL is going to pull it together in the running game. One thing is for sure we are going to find out. After seeing how A&M responded to Clemson and the Barn they are not as difficult as I thought they were going to be.

Man I must have watched a different game. I thought the D played well this week against a pass dominant team. I also saw LSU defense get manhandled, an Auburn offense predicated on running and a mighty iffy passing game, and an Aggie offense with a poor QB and suspect secondary. I’m not saying we cut through them all easily but I think there’s a lot more upside to this team than down. Improvement and maturity coming along on defense and an explosive pass game and improving run game - I like our chances.

Are you not comparing a Bama team in 2019 versus, say, a Bama team from 2012 (or any year like that?) Bama isn't playing Bama leaving comparisons to past teams out of the question at hand, does it not?

Step back for a minute and consider this.

If you saw one, you saw 10's of dozen's of people fretting over "Bama gave up 23 points to UofSC." Never mind it was on the road against a decent team.

Where are the "UGA only scored 23 at home against Notre Dame?" Or, where is the "LSU allowed Vandy 38 points while giving up 374 yards?"

No. I don't think so. I think it's the lens you're viewing football through. As one example, how often do you see people searching for areas where they can critique Bama's play this season? And, in those observations, how often have they been comparing two different teams from different years? We're literally seeing people saying "it's bullshit to say the offensive line needs time to gel" when every coach in collegiate football—yesterday, today, and forever for that matter—say "it takes time for the offensive line to gel?"

I've seen some say "Bama fans are spoiled." That's true, to an extent, in my view. I think it's the safest statement that can be made to say, "a lot of fan have lost their perspective."

First @TerryP , what are we doing up at this hour?
Second, I agree wholeheartedly that some fans are spoiled, lost perspective AND don’t know football as well as they think. I think the D is as young as I have ever seen and still doing a pretty darn good job aside from being out of position at times. I thought the Oline did much better. The running game was better but I would still like to see us run more. All in all I would give the team an A for effort and a solid B+, the O a solid A and the special teams an A- for yesterday’s performance. The rest of the season, we’ll see what we’ll see. I know this...23 to 17 was not a “curb stomping “. And I’m less worried about Jawja. But we all know, Alabama gets everyone’s best effort!

Pure exhaustion yesterday afternoon after the Bama game...between classes and work I'm running 70+ hours a week. What was meant to be a three hour nap ended up being over 10 hours.

These two things can coexist: Bama played its best game of the year yesterday and there's still work to do to get better.

Duuuude! I know what you’re saying. I have 2 jobs, one I am required to work 48 and the second I try to work only 24 but they want me to work more. I do this because my 24 yo son, his fiancé and my 22 yo daughter still lives at home because they can’t afford to be on their own. Plus, I’m just not ready to be an empty nester.

Plus, when I work both jobs, it’s at least an 18 hour day. 4 hours of sleep(if that) and start all over again. Not to mention the calls and texts from the store, “we’re out of toilet paper”. Really? And you can’t figure it out without my help?

@bamaledge, I appreciate the empathy for something I chose to do. Last week was 12p - 8p, M-F in class and then 9-10p until I'm finished at work for the rest of the day. The latter I'm used to. The combination of the two? Hoping to get used to. I'd better. It'll remain this way until May or June of next year

Chose being operative word here.

They may be calling you from the stall....not many things worse than finding you're out of TP after the fact. :p;)
