šŸˆ Indiana or Miami, Who Do You Pick? Score?

Interesting WSJ piece on college football team values. I’ve said for a while, the only difference vs NFL is ownership (and length of player contracts). There’s no rich guy owning the team and raking in all the profits.

We are 9th in the most valuable list. Texas tops the charts with a $2.2Bn valuation. Where does that rank with NfL teams? The lowest values NFL team, the Cardinals, are valued at $5.9Bn.

Indiana is spending as much as almost anyone.
From the WSJ article. These valuations don't make sense to me.

Brewer points to Indiana as proof. The Hoosiers are showing how nontraditional powers can emerge as huge attractions in this era. So while Indiana only ranks 28th on Brewer’s list at $648 million, it remains a 67.9% increase over last year. At $806 million, Miami placed 21st.

The cap rates appear to vary from about 11.5 to 16 percent, not sure if that's because they're considering multiple years of revenue instead of capitalizing the most recent year to get the valuation, or if they're assigning a lower cap rate to teams with a track record of more reliable revenue numbers. It appears to have no bearing on the payroll, it just hews to the mantra that an income producing property/entity is only worth what it earns. It's also possible that capital funds may have been excluded, or given less weight, than recurring revenue.

The things that are starting in the coaching community with the "IU doesn't think their shit stinks" is...interesting. It's a weird group of people talking about all of this right now.
