Bobby Bowden grew up an Alabama fan. When Florida State played Alabama in Jacksonville in 2007, Bowden, a Birmingham native, told me that when he retired, he wanted to attend a game a Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama athletic director Mal Moore told me that Bowden has accepted an invitation to the Crimson Tide’s game on Sept. 11 against Penn State. Bowden will see his childhood team play against the team of his old friend and competitor, Joe Paterno. Very cool.

Bobby Bowden in Tuscaloosa on 9/11
FSU will play at Oklahoma on 9/11. Bobby Bowden will be in Tuscaloosa to watch his favorite team play PSU.

Retired Bowden says he's happy | al.com

"One of my goals in life is to go back to Tuscaloosa and attend a football game," Bowden said. "You know, just for old times. Sit up in the stands. Of course, it looks so different now. One of these days, I hope I can do that."

While I think the decision to replace Coach Bowden at the end of last season was the correct one, it is hard to imagine it being handled any worse than FSU handled it. I am glad that he is content with his new lot in life. He is indeed one of the great personalities to pass through the college football coaching scene.

Having coached for decades, I wonder how he will act. Do you suppose that he will ask for a Hot Dog, because that is what fans do?

I'd have to guess that he would root for Alabama. But do you suppose the he would cheer for them?

Not only do i expect, but anticipate that he'll not only show up & cheer for the Tide, but will arive at the stadium in Crimson & White gear.
Anyone wanna put some bama bucks on it? lol

Look he loves the school. and he has a soft spot for the team and the memory of coach Bryant. Other wise why would he even care?
I have often wonderd how things would have played out had they not screwed him out of the job. wasn't he quoted as saying that he went to bed thinking he had the job and found out the next day he didnt? wasn't that when they hired Dubose? i remember comming home from living in California and when i found out they hired DuBose i was like....."WTH?!! that the coach from Prattville high! Stupid hire!"
Or is that some other coach they backed out on.

It was after Perkins left for Tampa. They hired Bill Curry instead. Bowden would have been un-freakin-believable as the HC at UA.
