We have imposed our will at the end of games. I just wish we would establish the run in the beginnings of game. If you get two on first down, dont give up on it. Run on second. The way Mark runs, he could break one any second. We assumed, wrongly I think that LSU would atomatically stop the run and they didnt.

I agree with you some but I think opening it up in the passing game early helps open up the running game late. I do think we need to be a little more balanced early though.

The game plan against LSU was to throw the ball a lot and eventually go to the run. It was a situation where the staff wanted to get them a bit winded, spread out a little more, and then feed Mark and company the ball.

That's not a guess on my part—Saban specifically went over it in his post game press conference.

I heard the complaints on the number of passes in the first half. And, I really wanted to say "if you would pay attention to what Saban says before a game, you'll get a good indication on what is going to happen."

It's not a state secret and it isn't something that they try to hide.

The only thing that shocked me is I really expected to see Upchurch have a more significant role. He did well when he was in...but, I expected him to at least get a carry.

Oh well. Missed that call.

Of course, all of the game plan is predicated on execution.

It won't do much good to plan to throw the ball 70% of the time in the 1st half if no one blocks or catches or makes accurate throws. This all may sound like restating the obvious, but it's not just the threat that I might throw the ball downfield, it's getting my DB's burnt enough to make them respect it. We missed too many open throws early on, and flat out dropped a couple more. That's execution. We did execute those plays enough, however, to let them know that we can.

To me, this spells trouble for MSU and Auburn. For Chattanooga, it's just devastating. I mean Hurricane Katrina devastating. Or, San Francisco earthquake of 1906 earthquake. Whatever you choose.

It's quite effective when we execute, like we did against Va Tech, N. Texas, Arkansas, LSU. To me, it's the biggest difference in Bama this year versus last year, and that's the key to the SEC Championship Game.

As for Texas, if I can keep the pressure on those guys and make McCoy rush his throws, expect a repeat of the 1993 Sugar Bowl.

I understand why they chose the offense against LSU, however I just happen to disagree with their philosophy....I know, I know, I am not the coach, but to committ to run certain offensive plays prior to a game without seeing how the defense is going to defend you is utterly crazy.

Onre of the few times that was ever done and it was successful that I know of was when Bear Bryant came out in the wishbone in 1971. Even they admitted it was a gamble and it was done because they didn't think they could beat USC straight up.

We have a good offensive line and GREAT backs. I would like to see establish our run more and then sprinkle in passing. It would seem to make passing easier for McElory and create single coverage for our receivers. I really like McElroy but I am not sure he is ready to carry the whole offense this year. It puts too much pressure on him. His ability to read the field and quick-decisions need some polishing.

Teams are very HAPPY when we don't run. They can't seem to stop it. Even Monte Kiffen was gald we didn't run. He said he couldn't figure out a way to stop it (run more outside too).................As long as we win, I don't care how we do it. But we could do it where it wasn't quite such a nail biter if play selection was better.

Against very good run defenses, we don't have the offensive line this year to put forth a dominant running attack at the onset of the game. Last year, we could pound it all game long and keep our defense off the field as we wore down good opponents. The Bama game plan to tire the LSU defense through passing in the first half worked. Had we gone three and out trying to establish a first half running game, our defense may have been worn out in the fourth quarter. As it was, we gave up less than ten yards of total offense in the fourth quarter.

Was I nervous after 25 first half pass attempts? Of course. I do, however, trust the game planning and game time adjustment abilities of the coaching staff.

Also, with the passing game at least trying to go down field, even when the passes are missed, it changes the way the DBs are going to play it. We missed a couple good open looks and they knew it.

Maybe my post sounded too harsh. I just think a few more runs the first half would have been nice. I understand his thinking. I just wish we ran to set up the pass a few series early, that's all. We are 9-0 and I am happy. Our coaches are great just wanted to see yall's opinion on it

This is where the mind games come in. They thought that we were going to come out and run. In turn, they came out stacking the box. By us sticking to the passing game so much in the first half, it forced them to back out of the box, specifically by just missing on a couple of deep throws. When they did that, we were able to run at will on them.
