🧑‍🤝‍🧑 / 🏡 I'm wore out

It's been a busy weekend for me.

Friday: I went to Costco after work. That takes some energy just to do that. If you've ever been to Costco, especially during a holiday weekend, you know what I'm talking about.

Saturday: Took my mom to Andy's (local nursery) so she could get some flowers to put in all her pots and planters. We then went to Lowe's so I could pick up a few things for the shop (wood glue, brad nails, painter's tape). Got home, ate some lunch, then I cut the back yard. After that, I planted all her flowers for her.

Forgot to say that I was up at about 3:00am Saturday with some pretty bad lower abdominal pains. I guess my supper Friday night didn't agree with me. So I wound up in the bathroom for a while waiting to see which end was going to come out of. And that lasted a while so I didn't get much sleep.

Today: Went and got gas for the cans and topped off the truck (I'd filled up on Thursday but had already used 1/4 tank). Went to Lowe's, again, to get some dirt, manure, drainage rock, and some 2-cycle oil. Got home and started on one of my projects.

I moved a bunch of Iron Plants from the front of the house around to the side. In that place, I put a planter I'd built a few days ago. The planter is ~8' long, 16" deep, and 16" wide. I built it to go under the big window on the front of the house. I have 2 smaller planters under the 2 smaller windows on the front of the house on the other side of the porch.

And the place I moved those Iron Plants to is mostly red clay. So it wasn't easy to dig. but I got it all done and now I'm just wore out. I'm about to put my steak on to cook (I use the sous vide method) so that's what I'll be eating for supper; along with a big backed potato.

That's quite the day. Perhaps we need a "This is What I Did Today" thread for everyone to share consequential days.

My Mom had a hip replacement on Monday. She's 83, so they automatically kept her one night, but PT wisely decided she needed a second night's stay to make sure she had safe movement. My wife and I split the two hospital nights. Home Wednesday morning, I've spent every night at the home place since then, but had grandkids this weekend who wanted jetski/boating opportunities. Major juggling, but worth it, and we all had a wonderful meal with my Mom this afternoon. There's been some significant disruption within that family that has greatly affected us since before Christmas, hopeful it's resolved in the next month.

I can't just sit, so I've been cleaning out cabinets, furniture and built-ins around the house, plus cleanups in the five outbuildings my Dad collected things. Found another thirty knives this evening. It's been therapeutic for my Mom to see things she stashed 40-50 years ago, and great for me to hear stories. I'm so grateful she's of sound mind and body - she mows her grass with the John Deere - and hopeful the hip brings her back to where she was 12-16 months ago.

Tim

It's been a busy weekend for me.

I can't just sit,
Short story long.

Two weeks ago, this past Saturday, my mom took a "spill" on the patio and knocked the hell out of her head. While doing so she literally took out a hand rail I had installed at the patio door. Now, this was made with 4X4 and screwed into the framing of the house with 1/4" lag bolts. Her fall "took the whole thing out." (Project to do.)

She couldn't stand up so I ended up picking up (I don't know the number) a lot of dead weight. The result? I strained the living hell out of my neck. So, since that Saturday (well, following Tuesday) when the pain really hit I've spent over a week with a tube of Librocaine in one hand and a bottle of Tramadol in the other.

Come this past Thursday I'm up and moving, biking a little, and feeling "I can get back outside by Saturday."

And then it started raining Friday night/Saturday morning.

I can't sit still. But, right now, after stepping outside? It's not raining: it is pea soup fog.

Everything mentioned in this thread I could have done or need to do in some form or another. VERY little is inside the house...and what there is to do inside I needed to work outside to finish.

So...didn't do much of a damn thing the last two days and ...

I'm wore out.

I still need to cut the front yard. It rained last night, so I'll have to wait to see if it dries in time. It's supposed to rain later, but hopefully it's late enough to where I can get it done.

Tree trimming, till a spot for tomatoes, mow grass and probably going to put down a pallet of mulch today. I do better mentally when I keep myself busy. I have been having a lot of trouble with depression and anxiety lately. Yes, I am seeing a Dr. and taking meds.

Y'all want to feel wore out, vicariously?

The guy that lives behind me has a pool...one that is partially below ground and partially above...12X24 ... not sure how deep one end is.

Since early Saturday morning I've heard, occasionally watched, he and his son out there with wet-vacs cleaning the pool. This morning...still clearing. (I'm not so much tired of hearing the vacs...his dogs, caged up while they are working, whining and yelping? Yeah, 'bout done with that.

I need to get my oak trees trimmed. I had someone come out and give me an estimate...$1500.

Last week we bought a new stove. I had to call them up to tell them to wait. As April and I were watching TV, we heard a big bang in the kitchen. I when to look and ours shelf that hangs on the wall for almost 30 years decide to give up and fall to the floors. I had to redo the shelf, and the mess.

That's what I look like when I saw the big mess I had to clean up. I had one thing the busted and that was a jar of dry pinto beans. I don't think it would have busted if something didn't hit it. Because the other jars make it.
It wouldn't be the shelf or the wall...it would be the beans that pissed me off.
