| FTBL I'm told yet another coach has joined the team...

Is this normal to hire so many assistants? Or is it just the fact that we have people that actually inform us of this, such as Terry? Anyway, Im glad to add to any staff we have, especially former players.

On this level, it is not normal. It is a case of Saban taking advantage of resources that are available to him from the athletic department, something most other schools wouldn't (or couldn't) come close to doing. It is also yet another example of the support he has from the school and the AD, and an example of how Saban breaks the mold when it comes thinking outside the box and putting together a robust football support staff.

Saban Rule III. It's coming, I'm sure.

My question, and I've yet to find out but planning on tracking it down, is if these guys can work with the kids when they are in skel drills since they are not part of the coaching staff. Roach with LB's, Petito with DB's, Irvin with RB's? Petito also worked as an OL coach at UNC.

Then he'd hire janitors that used to be in coaching.

Why not hire a specialist coach in each field if the university makes it possible! I would bet Saban implements alot of the tactics that he took away from the NFL where he always had big dollars readily available.

De-bob might be available.

What about Mr. T?
Stong Language**

Player gets his knee wrapped... by a coach.

Player needs a towel after the whirlpool...sees a coach.

Extra gravy on those potatos? We have a coach for that too.

Catch a ride on the campus bus...you guessed it.

Alarm clock set? No worries, we have a coach there too.

One of Saban's contract clauses with Miami was he could hire as many coaches as he wanted to...to think it is different here?

The only thing I could find in the rule book concerning this is

17.11.6.2 Summer Practice. Practice that is organized or financially supported by a member institution shall be prohibited during the summer unless specifically authorized in the bylaws (e.g., foreign tour) or through official interpretations approved by the Management Council. An institution may pay fees associated with the use of institutional practice and competition facilities by student-athletes engaged in voluntary athletically related activities in their sport. (Adopted: 4/28/05, Revised 9/27/05)

I would guess that if someone is employed by the University, regardless of their paid position, they wouldn't be allowed to work with the players in any way.

It may just be a by product, but it would certaintly seem to limit the negative effect if/when a staffer leaves.

As well as allowing members of the staff to have more contact with players in mentoring roles. It's win-win-win situation. Our on the field staff wins because it relieves them of the roadblock of not being allowed to spend as much time as needed. These support staff members get the advantage of working with a good staff which will translate to more experience for them down the road. And, it's easy to see how the players win.
