Yeah, I think that came from an LA Times reporter on scene who saw it and assumed... then a couple of outlets ran with it. I think CNN included? Anyway, apparently, he wasn't even shot according to DC police chief. I hope they send his ass off to ADX in Co for him to enjoy the rest of his long life...
Never been a fan of life sentences. Prison should be for reform imo and if there is no chance of a person returning to being a contributing citizen why bother paying to keep them around for 30 or 40 more years?
So death penalty? If that is the suggestion, I'm ok with it in many cases. Just this particular one, that won't be an option.
I'm not saying this guy deserves either, don't really know enough. Mental breakdown, ever been in trouble before, what exactly happened at the dinner? Lots could come into what his sentence should be. I wish life sentences didn't exist is all I was saying. I mean what's the point? Life without parole you're never going to contribute to society again so why saddle taxpayers with the expense of housing you?
Feel the same about attempted murder. Why punish someone more severely because he was a better shot. If the intention is the same the punishment should be as well imo.

I got no issue with putting many (people serving life sentences) of them down... lots would certainly deserve it. I'm just saying, as it stands now under the current laws, it's not an option... regardless of what I want. I don't care for housing them and feeding them for 30, 40 years either. But in this particular case, unless there's more stuff out there on this loon that we don't know yet, it simply won't be an option. And his crime was bad enough that reform or not, he doesn't deserve to walk free again.
Those that get the death penalty are usually just delayed from the sentence being carried out. They are incarcerated for 20-30 years for appeals before finally being put down.
Yeah I'm not a fan of that either, supposed to be a swift trial they should get a swift execution as well. I'm all for bringing back public hangings. Let people see there are severe and swift consequences for committing crimes and people may reconsider committing them.

I know, I just don't like it. Believe our legal system is as broken as any other we have in it's current state. If they were made to work in prison and provide a needed service to the public I'd feel a little differently. I wouldn't want to be locked up for life, just get it over with. I don't see the point in wasting taxpayer's funds on someone who will never show a gain from it and that's from prisoners to life long welfare recipients. Disabled people are the only exceptions for me, I'm sure many would prefer to be able to work.

It grinds my gears when someone gets convicted of murder, then sits in prison for years/decades while several appeals are filed. I know you get one automatic appeal for a murder conviction (not sure of other offenses); but that one should be it. After that, the sentence of death should be carried out within 1 year of the appeals process ending. That gives plenty of time for them to get affairs in order, family to say goodbye, etc. If you take a life, you should forfeit yours. And it shouldn't happen decades down the line while taxpayers are paying for it all along.
And, yes, I'm all for public executions; whether it be hanging, firing squad, whatever.

Calling something a floor away an āassassination attemptā is a bit silly no? I know he and his supporters like to think things, but that dude wasnāt close to Trump. Iād be more concerned that Trump and the White House havenāt grasped they should have better security than non secret service people manning security checkpoints
It doesn't have to be close. A guy who shot at the White House when the president was in Australia avoided an assassination charge through a plea bargain.
