At the beginning of the season Lou Holtz.....yeah.. .....stated that South Carolina had the best defense in the SEC (and maybe the country, can't remember). Well, ol Lou caused an uproar with that statement and people talked about how he was old and senile, etc..and so on.

Lou is old and senile, BUT, Lou called that one.

South Carolina has the 3rd-ranked defense in the country right now, just FYI. I guess I say that to say that this week's Florida/USC game might provide us all with a glimpse of Florida/BAMA in a few weeks.

Stay tuned to see how that one pans out.

It will be a fair comparison, no doubt. The biggest question will be how South Carolina's offense does in respect to not putting their defense in bad situations. The better part of Florida's most impressive showings this season have been directly related to opposing offenses imploding. Florida has scored a lot of points in the short field and directly off of turnovers.

SC does have a stout defense, and I think they will slow UF down some. As to Lou's prediction...

I was not aware that Lou had made this prediction about USC having the best defense, but have been in tune with their play this year. I will be watching this to see if defensively they can slow them down but will not get caught up in the score because USC's offense is lacking and therefore they will not take the time off the clock that we will. UF will beat USC but probably not like they have been winning lately.

LOL! Exactly! The blind squirrel. Yeah, I think that to a degree, but then sometimes I have to wonder if Lou is really as crazy as he lets on. You'd have to think that someone who's coached as long as he had would know something. Maybe not though.

B_F, you're right. We'll see maybe one half of the equasion in this game. BAMA's offense is clearly a lot better. This one could be an interesting game to watch.

His problem is his blatant bias (though he normally just saves it all for Notre Dame). If he was never the head coach at South Carolina, he'd have never said what he said, and when he did talk about them, he'd call them South Carolina University.

South Carolina will win the east next year. Mark it down- Ty said it first. That is, if they find a starting QB and stick with him. They will beat UF in Columbia and win the east, and then lose to Alabama in the SEC championship.

And they told me the squirrel wouldn't cross the road because he didn't have the nuts.

No, you didn't say it first. USC fans have been saying the same thing since they lost to UGA. USC fans have been saying the same thing since they lost to Georgia Sept. 5th, 1992.

FWIW, with the exception of their QB (and it's too early to call him a play-maker at this level of play) they lose both of the key guys on offense and both of their key guys on defense.

- Florida is +13 in turnover margin.
- South Carolina is -5
- Alabama is +5

I think the game will give us some indication of how well a good defense can stop Florida. But, like you said, UF has scored a lot of points off of turnovers. We don't make as many mistakes as USCe. But, their pass defense is (statistically) better than ours.

It'll be interesting to see how CNS plans his defensive strategy against such a well balanced Florida offense.

Regardless of strategy, we're still going to have to whip then on the LOS and minimize mistakes in order to win.

Anyone with a brain could tell SC was going to have a good defense this year with all the returning starters and leaders. If they had a offense to match...they would of been a great team this season.

I expect them to give Florida more then they expect this weekend...

No doubt, since USC has a great front D, just like Ole Miss did. We saw how that went. :D

florida is a 22 point favorite..

if i was a gamblin man i might be tempted to put up a little on that.

On Monday UGA was just an 8 point favorite (not sure if it has changed). Just passing that along...

Like 4th and 1 said, it's 22 now.Lot's of times they will change drastically in just a few days depending on who is betting the biggest.
