If Tommy Tubberville goes to Texes Tech, might he come after Tide LB coach James Willis?

• Willis did work for TT.
• Willis did come to Bama only after he was fired by Auburn...not TT.
• Willis, having played for Auburn, has no deep loyalty to Bama yet.
• TT has a Defensive Coordinator title he has to give to someone.
• Willis was one of TT's top recruiters.
• Willis has now studied Saban's system for a year, successfully.

1. He would lose serious money
2. It would be like a demotion in many areas
3. He is an SEC guy and settled here in Alabama
4. Texas Tech is a lower tier Big 12 team and harder to recruit for.

I seriously doubt it as well. James is doing a great job at Bama, he may very well have a championship ring here in a few days.....so why would he want to give that up to go to a place where the tradition is weak and he has very little chance of ever winning a championship? Just not a good move for a man's career, in my opinion.

I think that Tubby to Tech would be a really good fit. He won't get every assistant he goes after, but he'd get some. He's a good coach with a proven track record who knows how to recruit and also knows Texas pretty well. I'm glad he's looking at the Big 12 and not the SEC.

I didnt think Willis was fired by Auburn. Wasn't one of the few coaches retained by Chizik. If so he came to Bama because he wanted to come here. All that being said, I feel pretty confident that if he gets offered a DC job he would sure think hard about it.

I think Auburn told him they weren't retaining him and then tried to say they were going to retain him and just kind of left him in the dark. Not 100% sure.

If he wants to work a career, in the sense that he wants to eventually become a HC, the path from Position Coach to HC...he needs to become a DC. That mey be an other at Texas Tech, but will it be here?

From a money standpoint, how does Position Coach money at Bamastand up against DC money at TT?

Another angle, in the Big 12 a little Defense goes a long way.

The Barn wanted him to give back his $$$ (severance) after he was retained and he stuck his middle finger up and said hell no.. you fired me... Then Saban swooped in...

Doubt he will leave now for TT. His is making $$$ here, status, and also lives 2 1/2 hours from his home town & family and knows he will be on everyone's radar while on CNS team...

I hated the guy when he was lighting us up as a player but sure do love him now. Roll Tide!

I think he would lose money going to TT to be DC because TT has a track record of not paying their guys real well. Also, like what was already stated he lives only 2 1/2 hrs from his home town and family, he is a SEC guy, and he is a position coach at a school that will contend for NC you think Tech is going to be challenging for NC? I highly doubt it.

But, anything is possible.
