šŸ“ ā€œIf his last name wasn’t Manning, he would be a 3-star.ā€ - Mike Farrell

Not sure if he's taking a back seat to other guys at Rivals these days, if he has moved up to a position to oversee and not do much reporting, or if he's just a fossil in this recruiting game anymore, but this just wreaks of desperation from him. Not sure the end game, but you rarely hear from him anymore and then this? I happen to agree with the idea of Arch not being a five star if he had any different last name, but a three star is almost like Farrell got his feelings hurt about something and is taking it really hard or something to that accord.

Well to be fair, his final star/ranking isn't decided yet. I'm not big into recruiting much anymore outside of what I glimmer from you guys or family, but I doubt the ranking sites are far off. They tend to send out scouts and check these things quite a bit. Maybe some people will surpass him during their senior season.

I don't know if he's only 3 star or not, but I'm sure his name has as much to do with his 5 stars as his performance. Just like these 3 star recruits that sign with Bama and become 4 star or 5 star... Are we ahead of the "pro" recruiting scouts, or do they think if we're after them, they must be good? Chicken or egg LOL. Maybe if he weren't a Manning he'd be a 4 start but he still has a year to prove himself to be a 5, we'll just have to wait and see.

But he IS a Manning…so there you have it. 5 star, 3 star or walk on. Some of these folks ā€œthinkā€ they know more about football than they actually do. Arch may be one of the best or may not live up to expectations, either way he still hasn’t taken a single snap in college football.

Yea, couple other accounts that follow Highschool Sports and Recruits are saying he just doesn't look like a top recruit. He's not a 3-star though, likely a good 4-star recruit. I think the name gave him the bump from 4-star to 5-star and the fact he's playing against some of the worst competition gives him a chance to make a lot of good stat popping numbers. I'm not sold on the kid being the next coming of peyton. That being said, I wouldn't hate to have him in Crimson either, even if he's not the #1 guy. He's still a good player with good skills, just not the #1 1.000 recruit he's been hyped into.

The surprising part is that his numbers aren't that good. You'd think with the hype we'd be seeing some potential state records in jeapordy. Nope, he didn't even throw for 2,000 yards last year. Say Newman played 12 games, maybe more, that's 167 yards a game. Plenty of others producing more than that, regardless of the talent around them or the level of competition. Not trying to hate, but last Fall I really fell out of the sweepstakes in my recruiting hopes and felt Alabama could do better.

If there is someone that can help him succeed and draw up an offense around him, it's Sarkisian. The Manning's are a smart bunch, highly intelligent, so they have handled it all like champs. Why give anyone offering you the world more than you have to? As an accountant, you're always told, never give an auditor a spec more than what they ask for. Why should Arch do national events? NIL money being thrown at him, free ride anywhere in the country, and no telling what else. Even if you know you aren't able to compete with others in your class, don't just give it away if they have already annoited you. I hope he sees some success simply due to what has been put on him.

Agree with that for sure. I really don't read into a whole lot for the high school stats, most are playing against only few kids kids that will ever play organized football again at any level. That being said, both Peyton and Eli played for Newman and they seem to have become pretty decent QB's, that may give Arch a slight football IQ advantage I would say. :p

Farrell did call Arch to Texas weeks ago. Where would these "sour grapes" come into play?

He's no longer associated with Rivals. He's on his own: Mike Farrell Sports.

Ahh, ok. That explains his silence there at Rivals. Thanks for enlightening me with that information.

I think it's sour grapes because he considers himself the "Godfather of Recruiting", but he's been surpassed by so many others and has been an afterthought for a long time now. It really appears no one respects him as he is NEVER mentioned anymore and hasn't for a while, so I think he has to be his typical dick self every so often to make headlines. I've agreed Arch is not a five star to me, and have said that for well over a year now, but to say he's a three star isn't genuine and comes across as sour towards just about everyone else and dogging a 16/17 year old kid. Not cool in my book.

Context is missing here. Using 247Sports and their ratings as one example.

Their 5 star ranking—given to the top 32 players in each class—signifies their belief he'll be a first round draft pick. His current rating lists him as a franchise type player in the NFL. Both of these have a good chance to be true.

Because he's the #1 player in their ratings a lot assume that also means he's the best high school prospect. But that's not what the 5 star designation represents.

So, is he a five star guy? It's my belief it would be foolish to think an NFL franchise won't pick him up in the first round.
Is he the best prospect out of high school, for collegiate play, this class? Therein is a legitimate debate.

I find it interesting he didn't get a look from Riley at USC. Since he's received a commitment from Malachi Nelson it's a reasonable assumption Riley believes Nelson is a better QB then Arch.

Ha, didn't see Farrell mentioned once in there.

Anger, as will any distraction, effect how well a person does ______āˆž. While he wasn't that good at his job in the first place, Terry not inviting him to join 247 sent him over the top. I believe he still carries a massive "chip on his shoulder" though I haven't talked with anyone in his circle in years.

His adamance in stances is what's turned me off; among a host of other things. "There will never be an ESD because it takes away the ability for the big boys ability to pray on the weak down the stretch." I just remember that from this ... AMA I read on Reddit. (He did qualify it here with "not sure." He didn't in other instances.) Notice the date here? Eight years ago; February 3rd, 2014. The NCAA overwhelmingly passed the resolution April 14th, 2014.
