I would rather know now that almost time for the bowl game. I know all these transfer are because Bama not in the play off. Also could be the OC/DC.

You'll know well before the bowl game. They've been advised by their reps to sit it out, but that doesn't mean they will. Decision is theirs to make ultimately. The transfers were going to happen anyway, the timeline is just sped up because of no playoffs. It's just part of it now and it's not necessarily the negative thing that some fans seem to think (or that some media would have you believe).

But it ruins college football forever /s

I mean, I expect some complained about the forward pass, and when they outlawed the wedge formation on kick offs, and when players stopped playing both ways, and when substitutions were no longer limited, and when the replay was put in. Every change makes things different and some don't like it ever.

I know I'll get bashed for this but I hope they sit out. They've more than been great for this university but it's all about them now. I wish them the best.

You shouldn't get blasted. In terms of their future, it's the smart play... especially for Bryce who has dealt with the shoulder since October 1st. A reinjury to that (or anything else that put him on the shelf) would cost him. Could obviously hurt Anderson too, he's just been healthier.

Well, I don't necessarily like how it is... I'd much prefer some more rules in place to limit it (sort of like NIL)... BUT, fans can't complain about certain things like poor leadership, poor attitudes, and misevaluations, then turn around and complain about the portal, which is a means to fix those very issues.

Yep, I've come to look at it as a way of saying in a passive, aggressive way "Get the hell out!"

There’s basically 3 types of situations involved in transfer decisions:

  1. Players that want to transfer out / Players that Saban wants to transfer out.
  2. Players that want to transfer out / Players that Saban wants to stay.
  3. Players that want to stay / Players that Saban wants to transfer out.

1- This is obviously the easiest (and ends up being the most common) situation.

2- The muddy scenario that can’t really be avoided in today’s college football. Some are talked into staying, some ultimately leave. But in the past very few have left that Saban fought hard to keep.

3- The complicated situation. Could be any number of reasons Saban would like to free up the player’s spot. He’s hardly ever going to force a player out that wants to stay though assuming that the player is in good standing with the program.

There are rare situations like Trey Sanders that don’t really fit any of those above. Loved by staff but at this point will have better opportunities elsewhere and it’s just best for both parties.

The way I see it, they are given a full ride scholarship, now given ways and aided to make millions. So why should they be able to quit while we're technically still playing? To me, that is not Captain behavior to quit on their team. People can keep giving me hell for saying it, but you're quitting on your team. Sure, they've been good for Alabama, but damn, Alabama has been good for them too. A scholarship isn't partial for whatever a university or coach deems worthy or necessary, so I feel players should be forced to play out their season.

My solution is start a farm system or G-League to get all of these guys out of college. Go back to traditional college rules and system. Everybody gets what they want, and those that want an education and to play for the love of the game and school, boom. Then, the guys that hate achool, want ro chance it and make money and try to make the NFL, boom.

I believe Bryce Young made roughly $4 million dollars this past year. If we adjust for taxes and other expenses, lets make an estimate and say he will pocket $1.5 million dollars. The average American makes roughly $50k per year. It would take the average American 30 years to make what Bryce Young has made in the past year. Bryce Young could go to Thailand and live like a king for the rest of his life with the money he has rightfully earned.

My conclusion: His ass better play. Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of this "sitting out" behavior being tolerated among fans of college football. I understand that Bryce Young went to Alabama because it would pipeline him right into the NFL, and that he probably had no idea who Bear Bryant was until he started being recruited by Alabama. But guess what? He took advantage of Alabama's top notch coaching and facilitates to make himself a Heisman trophy winner, and good on him for doing so. At the end of the day he made a commitment to play football for the University of Alabama, and yes that includes consolation prize Sugar Bowls.

Very good and fair point Sir. Perhaps they should be held partly liable for violating their employment contract with their respective university?

By partly liable, I mean that would have to pay some type of fine that their future employer wont be able to "buy out". And nope, I don't care if its mean or dirty. Even assistant coaches at lower level universities make close to half a million per year, so its not like they would be put in debtors prison for not paying a personal fine.

Coaches are professionals and employees, students are not. This is where I can't understand how people can't decipher the two.

I don't think a coach should leave before the season is over, no. But just like a coach being fired, you're saying a school should be able to fire a player right in the middle of a season or their career because of their status or performance?

Players are amateur athletes and there are rules. Coaches are professionals and have that ability to play under different rules. Should we just blow up all rules all the way down to elementary school just because? Should high school players be able to play for any school they want to regardless of where they live and even attend school? Why ban them from that? Is there no questioning the current madness of college football because the rules are no longer?

You brought up quitting while they’re still playing, which led to my question. Coaches leave before the bowl games all the time, so players shouldn’t be able to?

Well I meant if they leave before the season is over (i.e. bowl game or conference championship). Let's use Jaxon Smith-Njigba as an example. Dude played part of one game and has not played the rest of the season. He could have come back, but decided not to and is even sitting out the Playoffs. Why should he still be on scholarship after he was cleared weeks ago to play but kept himself out as a precaution?

I do not agree with a coach leaving before the season is over either. I think guys came to play for that coach, he conditioned his team his way, and that he should ride out until the season is complete. I understand recruiting reasoning from both programs where he is heading and leaving, but he should be held accountable. I think guaranteed contracts is killing the sport as well, because then the coaches are still being paid even after they leave, and if a player leaves they are cut off from the university.

I also want to state that an injured player deserves to remain on scholarship as he gave up his body for his university. I'm just using the above example for when a guy is on scholarship still, has been cleared to play, but still sits out. I think we can probably talk about Tyler Harrell as an example at Alabama as well. It erks me a little, because then you still have walk-ons paying their way and a guy not playing due to his decision under scholarship.

NCAA rules are the only reason. You can't pull the scholarship in the middle of the season.

Yeah, I figured as much. Zero player accountability anymore. They can accept money, up and leave when they want, and have no accountability for their actions. The NCAA has screwed it all up. I'll throw agents in there as well. Rules everywhere else in life, but college football allows them all to run free and without guidelines. The schools sure are held accountable though.
