| FTBL I was just curious . . .

They were beat, but they did get pumped up. I don't think we would have lost but I was enjoying the butt kicking and wanted it to continue. I'm never completely satisfied when it comes to football, I guess. I'm not a fan of the foward pass. LOL !!

Me neither!!! Give me 80 running plays, I'm happy. Hell, my favorite football game is one where it is a defensive struggle all day long. Some of those 6-3 wins in the past are my favorite games.

If you load up on the run, the deep pass will kill you.

Uh, that's the only thing that didn't "work" Sat. night. JPW just can't seem to master that. I really don't know how much deep-ball action we'll see this year.

His second half throw to McCoy was a 20+ yard strike. Deep outs and crossing patterns are enough to punish a team for crowding the line. You don't have to go for the home run every time, although I do think you'll see some nice ones this year.

This conversation is a prime example of how we as Bama fans need to change our lines of thinking.

Coach Saban refers to these as explosive plays. By that, he means plays that are for more than 15 yards whether it be running or passing the ball.

We had 5 of those Saturday night, 3-4 more that were a few yards short.

All in all, it wasn't a satisfactory night on offense by his standards, which I don't feel uncomfortable saying should be our own.

Lou Holtz said something last night that I actually agreed with. "Football games are 10 yards at a time."

Even if we go the entire season without a long pass completed, we'll soon get to our explosive play numbers goal. When we are hitting that number, look out!!!

I did find one thing interesting. All those that complain about JPW's arm...the shot down field to Julio, the one to Maze he caught, the one he missed...thrown almost on a rope. His 50+ yard toss to the endzone, incomplete, was a shot...not a floater.

Wow, I actually agree with something Lou Holtz says. :) I would love "explosive" plays but I'd be happy with any kind of offense that gets a win. I'll gladly adapt to Coach Saban's thinking. With that said I still think we'll see more "yardage after the catch" type plays than we'll see true "deep passes" per say.

Yes he did make some throws downfield and they definitely weren't short, but you must admit that was a HECK of a catch by Maze. Sad to see that one taken away. Wow!

TP and RT, you guys are talking about 2 different scenarios altogether.

The ill-advised passes came on our first drive of the second half after Spiller had the 96-yard kick off return. The score at that point was 23-10.

JPW tried to hit Julio on the deep ball on the sidelines and was long with Marquis on back-to-back plays. That resulted in the 3 and out!!!

Now the play that was called back that you spoke of RT was actually a long run to the outside by Davis. One of their TEs blocked Rolando in the back, so that nullified a huge gain.

Nope. 1st drive of the second half started with 2 carries by Coffee. Second carry was for 15 plus yards for a first down.

Then Coffee ran again for 4 followed by 2 incomplete passes.

We only had one 3 and out and it was in the 4th quarter.

Remember when Pat Dye said that Alabama wasn't man enough to beat Georgia 5 years ago? Well, Clemson wasn't man enough to beat Alabama Saturday night.

I thought Dye said Georgia wasn't man enough to beat Alabama....? :?:
