If you load up on the run, the deep pass will kill you.
Uh, that's the only thing that didn't "work" Sat. night. JPW just can't seem to master that. I really don't know how much deep-ball action we'll see this year.
His second half throw to McCoy was a 20+ yard strike. Deep outs and crossing patterns are enough to punish a team for crowding the line. You don't have to go for the home run every time, although I do think you'll see some nice ones this year.

This conversation is a prime example of how we as Bama fans need to change our lines of thinking.
Coach Saban refers to these as explosive plays. By that, he means plays that are for more than 15 yards whether it be running or passing the ball.
We had 5 of those Saturday night, 3-4 more that were a few yards short.
All in all, it wasn't a satisfactory night on offense by his standards, which I don't feel uncomfortable saying should be our own.
Lou Holtz said something last night that I actually agreed with. "Football games are 10 yards at a time."
Even if we go the entire season without a long pass completed, we'll soon get to our explosive play numbers goal. When we are hitting that number, look out!!!
I did find one thing interesting. All those that complain about JPW's arm...the shot down field to Julio, the one to Maze he caught, the one he missed...thrown almost on a rope. His 50+ yard toss to the endzone, incomplete, was a shot...not a floater.
