If Gerhart had played for USC. He would have won it. This is from one of the sportscenter guys. Sour grapes is all I got to say.

Thank You Mark! For your love of your family and coming to Alabama.

Tony Barnhart (CBS College Sports) said on his twitter "For the sore losers, show some class, the young man deserved the trophy and I think you should show half the class as the finalists and this young man".

This isn't a matter of being biased or anything, but the voters got it right giving the award to Mark, I think Suh should've been second.

...and If Ingram was from Alabama, he wouldn't have had a chance. Luckily for him (and us), many of the northern guys stuck up for their boy, when some the SEC area hacks shunned him.

You got that right, Porter! Kinda ironic who the real SOB-yellabelly-carpetbagging-scalawags turned out to be.

I'll never buy another Clarion-Ledger until those three spineless sportswriters are old news or the world runs out of toliet paper.

idiot

robert smith is the dummy that basically acted like it was a crime for mark to even be in the top three. he was strait mad that the result wasnt what he picked cause he didnt have mark on his ballot . then he wants to go off and talk bout how these other guys deserved it more and how toby gerhart played against all these great pac-10 defenses and mark played against these sec d's that were not even close to them and the reason he won was based on the preception of the sec to all the voters and he didnt stop there then he talks about how they need to change the way the voting is done. after his rant then he wants to try to say im not trying to take anything from ingram he is deserving but i think there are others more deserving .he is a disgrace to say those things and act such a way after mark just won it i mean a couple minutes after the announcement .
HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED NEVER HAVE I SEEN ANYONE ACT THAT WAY I AM UTERLY DISGUSTED AND ALL OF BAMA NATION SHOULD BE BECAUSE HE BASICALLY SPIT IN MARKS FACE

"IF" seems to be the hot item this season. Its all the rage. And what a versitile thing "IF" is. It goes with everything.

If Stanford would have won 10 games... If Gerhart had played for USC... If Ingram had not played for Alabama... If LBS played college football, and was on a good team, and player better than anyone else...but instead, I'm sitting on my can in front of a computer like the rest of the hip, new "IF" crowd.

Three words" Slow. News. Days.

Good news boys. Just in time for Christmas, "BUT" is being released on the heels of the "IF" line. In the end, I think being a "BUT-man" will be the in vogue thing this year.

As Dandy Don used to say, "If ifs & buts were candy & nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas."

You are dead wrong. A 4 loss team should not have a serious Heisman contender.

My point was the Nebraska player was more deserving that any of the other finalists...especially Gerhart and Tebow....and one could easily argue that he was more deserving than McCoy....especially how that game was played. IMO Shipley was more deserving than Tebow..and his name was never even on the radar. Alot of great players uut there, never even mentioned. And I could be wrong about Gerhart...but he doesnt get those numbers playing real defenses...and he wont go very high in the draft. Clausen and Tate will go higher. As for a 4 loss team player not being deserving...I agree...but he could have been on a one win team and still been more deserving than alot of others given his play performances.

REAL "killa"! Derrick Thomas had more sacks(27) in ONE season than "killa" had in FOUR(24) and DT didn't even make it to NY, much less win.

Derrick was a pass-rushing linebacker. Suh is an interior lineman. Apples to oranges. For an interior lineman to lead his team in tackles is incredibly rare. He was the only lineman in the top 200 tacklers, everyone else was a DB or backer. D-Tackles simply do not usually rack up stats.

For sake of fair comparison, Glenn Dorsey had an awesome 2007, making him a top ten pick, and the highest placed defensive player in Heisman voting (ninth). Dorsey's stats were:

13 games, 69 tackles, 7 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, three passes defended, three quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

Suh's numbers this year were 82 tackles, 21 for loss, 12.5 sacks, three blocked kicked, ten passes defended, an interception, a forced fumble, and 22(!) QB hurries. And he hasn't played his bowl game yet.

Why? The award is for the best PLAYER in the country not the best player on the best team in the country. That's the problem with the Heisman is people think it's for the best player on the best team which it is not.

Cory

You are correct...With this years competition of good players on 2 unbeatens..it would be hard to give it to a player with 4 losses...but some just think it cant be given to a player if he is on a 4 loss team...just because of the losses...how many losses are acceptable...what if every team had 3 or 4 losses...would the Heisman just not be given out..?
