🏈 Hypothetical Alabama teams.

Offense - 2020 - could score at will and just the comradery.

Defense - 2012 - players all over the field that played hard and dominated Notre Dame. Lots of players made great NFL careers.
Be a good team. Really good team. I took the 2016 defense because it's more of the modern way now, especially the players. Need speed now with how offenses are now. Also an extremely stacked team at every position. So was 2012. If I could take the 2012 defense and slim them down to what is needed now, I might go with them instead.

And you could these days, like they did with Reuben Foster.

Exactly, before the 2016 season be was about 240-245. Dropped down to 220-225 and became an even better player. Gained that speed, while also still being a physical linebacker. Led the nation in playing against the run, always was at the line of scrimmage, and a violent player. And to top it all off, won the Butkus that year as well. But dropping that weight turned him into an all around player. Hate his his career turned out. My favorite Bama player ever.

I felt the 2016 team was the best of the Saban era but the offense let them down and cost them their rightful place. Of course we have had better offenses for sure. A 2020 offense and 2016 defense would be the best team of all time in college football. 2016 defense is 1a and 2011 Defense is 1b in my mind.

You're right. Probably the best defensive unit to never win a national championship. Still hurts to think about it. I don't think you could go wrong with either offense, both were elite and was going to score. I put the 2018 offense in the same category as the 2016 defense as well. I wish Pruitt was the DC that year, we'd of probably won the whole thing.

Lawson has that ability. His size is perfect and he works down hill. If they progress him right, he will be a great one for us.

Shit, Lawson, Blackshire, Murphy, Campbell, Jackson.... They all have the ability to be really good, just need a new man to develop them. Oh, and same goes with Qua Russaw if we get him. That kid is 230+ and has ridiculous closing speed and ability to run sideline to sideline.

I've mentioned this before, but in the late 90's Al Browning wrote Crimson Coronation, an all-time Alabama tournament among champions with a little sci-fi thrown in. Each of the older teams in the tournament magically adjusted to match, say, the 1992 team for its size and speed. It was an interesting read, can't remember who came out on top, or if they included the '66 team. 1966 team gave up 44 points in 11 games, 1962 gave up 39 and 1961 gave up 25, all 11-game seasons. I'll take one of those for D. Offensively, the mix between Mac's passing and Najee's running were a great mix, just awesome, so 2020 offense.

Can I reach into the distant past? I still believe the 92 defense was the standard bearer. Talent across the board. But more than that, they just played mean. They had an attitude and just dominated their opponent. I would take the 2020 offense all day every day, but I also liked the 2016 offense with an unstoppable Derrick Henry. Everyone hated playing against the King.

Not a single mention of the '09 defense?

It was between them and 2012 for me. I like that defense simply due to size, but wonder if they could manage in the HUNH that dominates football right now. I believe the 2012 team had that perfect medium where they had size and strength necessary, but also the speed and physicality to hang in there as well. of course, if a back got hit coming out of the backfield by Rolondo McClain or Marcell Darius, they most likely get thrown off their route pretty quickly, ha ha.
