🏈 Hurts, Bateman, Barnett and the QB competition

You cynical punks are missing the whole point. The interesting thing was Saban said that one guy stood out above the rest in terms of proving ready to lead the team aka start.
According to every witness account, Jalen Hurts was the one that stood out, with Bateman having by far the lousiest showing.

Everyone will live in denial about Hurts starting until the first snap of USC, but if all of these reports were coming out about Bateman lighting it up and being better than the rest, there wouldn't be much doubt

Cynical punk! :rolf:

"According to every witness account" is simply not true. Maybe, and I will readily agree with this IF it's the case, every report you've read has said that. But, every eyewitness has not.

I've read, and spoken with, more than a handful who have said differently.

I could care less, but not a lot ... after all, just a cynical punk here. h/t

This begs the question of which QB your sources are saying has proven his ability to lead the team.

Saban himself has said he's been pleased with all three qb's. You think he's lying, or Saban is actually pleased with Bateman "lousy" showing?

If recent history has taught us anything, the qb race is unpredictable, internet know-it-alls generally know nothing, and there's only one man with a vote. I quit paying a lot of attention to the race when Blake Sims won the starting job.

I just remember last year when all the reports were Coker couldn't hit the side of the barn with his passes, he was inconsistent, overwhelmed, and just looked lousy during scrimmages, practices by the "insiders", and yet what transpired was as we know totally different, as Coker did his job and did it well! Well enough to win a national championship, scrambling and throwing and using his head

Yeah, Coker was terrible...via the Alabama records books.

#2 yards per season @ 3,178
#2 attempts per season @ 393
#1 completion per season @ 263
#2 completion percentage per game (minimum 20 completions) @ 83.3%
#4 completion percentage per season (minimum 200 completions) @ 66.9%
#2 completion percentage career (minimum 250 completions) @ 66.6%
#4 TD passes per season @ 21
#3 lowest interception percentage career (minimum 200 attempts) @ 1.77%
#1 Alabama's winningest QB's @ 1.000

we started a senior. That won't happen this year!

@rick4bama I could make that emoticon into a bet right now ...

Give odds, 2 to 1, people couldn't guess where it came from.

Just for the record, I was on the Coker bandwagon from day one, and wanting him to start over Blake Sims, which I still agree with Coker being better than Sims, but from a team chemistry standpoint, they had to go with Sims.
The reason I was for Coker was because I saw his arm in the ADay game. He made some really really nice throws. When the poor reports came out in the fall, I just couldn't believe them, because I had seen him play. I knew he was better than the reports made him sound. Also, what became apparent was that Jake Coker was definitely a gamer, and elevated his play when the lights were brightest. I think being named "the guy" helped him as well as the team.

Now at this stage, I've seen Bateman. We've all seen Bateman. I KNOW for a fact that he's the worst option we have right now, and all eyewitnesses have said as much about his recent showings in comparison to the other two.
I know that Barnett and Hurts both have the arm that we need.
I know that Barnett seems pretty inconsistent, but flashes real talent, and might be better in an actual game, like Coker.
I know that Hurts is poised as fuck, is a highly dangerous running threat, can be deadly accurate on the run, and is the most potentially dangerous offensive weapon we currently have on the roster. I know that I've heard glowing reports about him from everyone, with even Cecil Hurt saying he looked better than the other two.

I'll just leave it at that..

Not bad for a non-playmaker. :smh:
