🏈 How would a college football Super League look? Let’s imagine a 48-team version

What’s the point? You have so many teams in the conference that it would take forever to play through the rotation.

Personally, I probably would too (at least up until recently)... but I'm not sure Sankey would. He's more than likely going to try and maximize the league footprint (without hopping states) for the better TV contracts.

I always thought 4 conferences with 16 teams for a total of 64. The entire season could play out like NCAA basketball tourney.

Still probably too many. To give the players the most compensation, I think they ought to divorce college football from other intercollegiate sports and trim the four leagues down to 10-14 teams each.

That'd be a better set-up I think. With FSU and UNC over WVU and VT...not sure why we'd want either of those schools.

You always need a Vandy-type school. It really doesn’t matter because you may not play them for 20 years with a 40+ team conference.

The NFL needs to get off their hands and go ahead and begin assuming ownership of this thing. The sooner state governments (via state university systems) no longer have to underwrite this racket, the better.

Look at recent additions and why we added them. We're not interested in another Vandy type school. We want big schools with big fan bases and big potential payouts.

The old joke was Vandy was there to help the academics, since the NCAA portion of that doesn't matter, nor do academics really

UNC is no slouch, boast a much better following, especially in basketball and makes more sense than Virginia Tech which boasts nothing really except coverage for TV maybe?

Talked to a UNC booster friend of mine.
He claims UNC, Duke, NCSU and Wake are a package deal. He said his last booster meeting covered what it would take to leave the ACC, they want out apparently. Just not as adamant and up front about it as FSU.

I can't remember which one came out and said it publicly recently, but either a UNC or NC State rep said those 2 were for sure. Now, when push comes to shove, those words can crumble quickly... but I think that Sankey would take both of them. NC State has been targeted for a few years already, I know that for a fact. All the other conference movement and shifts have since made UNC attainable too. It would be damn hard for those 2 to turn the SEC down over a promise to Duke and Wake, IMO. When the last lifeboat is there, and you've got a saved seat, you better take it.

I haven't heard anything on realignment and NC State but if they wanted a package deal I'd definitely take UNC, NC State and Duke. The Basketball acumen alone would be worth it. Along with the eyeballs and brands. Other than that, I'd love to grab Clemson and FSU though I'm not sure if the SEC is wanting to expand that much during this whole thing.

Unless something has changed fairly recently (and maybe it has, or maybe it well), the SEC had very little interest in Duke.

I know what the intent is, but if you stack it you won’t have any team with the ability to stand out. You’ll get teams in the 8-4 to 6-6 range. Then have a championship with only your “best” teams? Play the top team of the other 40-team conference? What is the advantage of having a 40-team conference? The conference loses any negotiating power with the networks since there’s only one other conference and a network can only broadcast a limited number of games.

Gah, the pretentiousness that comes with North Carolina and Duke wouldn't be worth it to me.
