🏈 Hotels in ATL (For opener vs. VA Tech)

Didn't get to go to the Clemson opener but we went for the SECCG. Some of my in-law family stayed at the Westin by Peachtree. Nice lobby but small rooms. Waiting for the Elevators was a royal PITA too. More of a business/short stay kind of place IMO. It was a few blocks down from the Ga. Dome. and definitely within walking distance. Close to some of the bars too and the Hard Rock Cafe.

Same here...

We enjoyed our stay at the Embassy Suites in Buckhead with one exception. The hotel would not let us check in until 3:00. My son and I left for the game well before then and because I had put the rooms in my name only, they did not want to let my wife check in. My wife knew I had paid for the room in advance for a lower rate and told the cashier she wanted access to the room that was paid for with her credit card. A manager overheard the conversation asked to see my wife's credit card, verified the number and gave her the room key. I guess that could happen anywhere and I learned from that experience to put my wife's name on our room.

Anyway, you didn't ask but I will add that we got this room for it's proximity to a Marta station and shopping area for my wife and daughter. The trip on Marta to the game was no problem. The return was not and keep in mind the Georgia Dome is at an East/West route station. Most of the nice motels are near North/South route stations. Getting on Marta after a game is hectic enough but the transfer of trains at the hub station was packed sardines. If you could find a motel near the East/West routes you could save yourself some time especially traveling West from the Georgia Dome. Don't know about the neighborhoods that way or even if any motels are near Marta stations that way, but I will check it out before booking my next room for a Bama game in the dome.

I don't know if they will fall on the same date again this year, but last year Dragoncon and the opener fell on the same weekend. Needless to say every hotel was pretty much booked, I ended up having to call like 30 hotels to find a room. So plan ahead and make reservations. It was fun, however, seeing all the clemson and alabama fans mixed with all the sci-fi characters. I bet they were all the fans were like wtf, lol.

They are on the same weekend this year as well. Also, there is a NASCAR race in Atlanta that weekend. Traffic and hotels should be fun. I am already booked into the Marriott near Peachtree. Good Luck.

Weezy....if you are coming in from Indiana for the game, will you be coming in on I-75? Depending on which way you come in to town may be helpful in where you stay. The racetrack is south of ATL in Hampton. Granted folks will be staying all over the place, but south is where you want to stay away from.

I come in from B'ham and head over and usually stay in Douglasville. I then head east into town and hit the very first MARTA station and ride the subway into town. You can go here to get a map of where the MARTA runs. Anytime I go to ATL I stay in Douglasville and take the MARTA. It works well for me and I would imagine that it would be similar if you decide to take it in from north of town as well.

I know we have several Tiders on here that live in ATL that can help you out with more info, but getting to the dome and not having to deal with traffic/parking is fairly nice.

The wife and I stayed at the Drury inn and suites. It is close to the airport and they shuttle you to the Marta station, and from there the Marta takes you to the Dome. It was good for us because the hotel is right off the interstate and there are a couple of restaurants in walking distance. So you will not need to get back into your till your ready to go home.

Wow, I am feeling pretty good now because I just stay at my brothers house in Fayetteville. We jump in the car , park inside the red parking garage at the dome and then make our way to our suite where we enjoy great food, beverage and in the case of the clemson game a win.

Yes RJ, we will be coming on I-75. Thanks for the advice everyone, I appreciate it.

I was up there for a band gig recently and stayed at the Best Western Granada Suites. It's close to Little Five Points/Virginia Highlands.

They are doing some renovations, so the lobby and check-in area are under construction. But, I figure that will be done by then. It was a great rate, comfortable beds, windows that opened and big flat screen TV's.

Mash Here

Living in the ATL area I would recommend forking over the extra $$ and staying closer to the dome.

The traffic and parking is no walk in the park.

Douglasville & Hampton? WHOA!!!! Those are far treks. Might as well stay in Anniston and drive over that day.

For the Clemson game, I stayed at a hotel off the GA 400 and I drove in a bit and picked up the northernmost stop of the MARTA. It took quite a while to get to the Dome (near an hour) and getting back on the MARTA after the game was crazy. There was a really, really long line at the GA Dome stop, but there was another stop around the Dome that was easier to get on. If I had to do it over again, I would probably spend the money and stay within walking distance and avoid the hassle.

All that said, it was a great experience nonetheless (the game, the atmosphere, and the win)! Get there somehow, some way.

Apparently you have never ate at Gumbeauxs. All my trips to, through, and around Atlanta involve a stop at this place. Douglasville is easy. You go about 10 miles to the MARTA, hop on, and ride the train right to the dome. I'll be doing it next weekend for the Supercross race. Pretty easy actually.

I have to agree with Gumbeauxs. That is a great place to eat. When I lived in Marietta I would go there a couple of times a month. A friend of mine up there introduced me to the place.
