🏈 High School teams that use college mascots, logos, battle cries, etc...

Obviously, it's not at all unusual for a high school team to use a college (or even pro) logo. The UGA or Green Bay "G" is used often for example, even if the colors are changed. The school system I grew up in (Vestavia Hills) used the Ole Miss Rebel mascot at the time. A high school I attended for a couple years (McGill-Toolen) ripped off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, just made him orange. The high school I eventually graduated from, used a very slightly altered USC Trojans logo. Point is, it happens. A lot. But yesterday I ran across something a little bit more rare... a school using both a logo from one college team and a battle cry from another. Minden HS in Louisiana. They went with a little Tulane and Alabama flavor... they even threw in some UA related social media hashtag slang for good measure...IMG_3041.jpeg

And did RollTide at games.
Ms50+ lived there when I departed for VN.

Louisiana people werent real happy about hollering "Roll Tide ". Even At the HS games.

Always thought it was funny. Saw where another hs used it. Can't really remember ehere it was. So unique

When I first moved here I caught a Summerville High School game. (John McKissick, look him up.)

Summerville Green Wave...then I saw they were wearing the UGA 'G' ... the 'Internet' was in its infancy at that time and there wasn't a way to figure out, "is that Green Bay, is that Georgia, a Tulane reference?"

Vincent Yellow Jackets are a doppelgänger for GaTech.

When we first moved to Kennesaw, the youth football league in Cobb County was all NFL teams, colors and all, except Kennesaw. Green Bay Packers colors and "G" logo, except we were The Generals, in honor of the locomotive that was stolen by Union raiders in Kennesaw (then Big Shanty) and retaken by Confederates. When Kennesaw Mountain High School was built, the city fields were converted to full baseball/softball use, and the youth teams moved to the high school fields and took the Mustangs, which is the Kennesaw Mountain mascot. On and off, they've used the old SMU logo of a galloping horse.

The baseball teams that have Kennesaw as their home park are still The Generals, but red and white unis.

From my understanding of it all, as long as people can't walk by and get confused, you can utilize a logo or phrase anytime you want. This is a situation where I don't think anyone is thinking these guys are Tulane or Alabama. You obviously have brands and Roll Tide is Alabama, but the colors and that logo don't make it easy to understand, but more questioning.

My high school were the Seminoles and we looked just like Florida State from a uniform perspective. We were a small AAA school in Georgia at the time, and never would have been confused with Florida State if you saw us, but those assholes sent us a cease and desist because folks may misinterpret a bunch of 5"8-6"3 100-210 pound 4.8 running white boys with a bunch of 6"0-6'8 200-350 pound 4.4 running black boys from Tallahassee.

The Green Bay/UGA "G" seems to be the most used/copied logo. I see it everywhere. Right down the road from me, Gordo HS uses it and the Packers colors to boot. One that makes me laugh... Homewood, years ago used the badass old school Patriots logo (same color and all). Patriots updated their logo to that newer (shitter) version, and Homewood stayed right with them and did the same...

I spent some time in the Birmingham HQ of Colonial Bank back in 2009 that sat on the site of the original HS, right at 280/31/Red Mountain Expressway. At that time, you could still see the track outline. One of the bankers there was Chuck Boswell, son of Charley Boswell of WWII and blind golfing fame. Chuck probably attended Shades Valley somewhere around your time there.

I was very fortunate to get to spend a lot of time around Mr. Boswell and Mrs. Boswell growing up in B'ham... his grandson and I were very good friends. He was a good man with an unbelievable story.

While I was out biking this morning I stopped to refill my water at the 7-11. A guy comes in wearing a Bama shirt, I say "Roll Tide" to him...he starts showing me his tattoos that are all Bama. His name? Gene Bartow.

I almost went to the liquor store.

surprise wtf GIF

You accidently slip into an alternate universe?
Ya think? Six hours later and I find myself laughing out loud. Just too freakin' weird.

Get this, right? Long red hair, long ass beard, wearing horn rimmed glasses...Bama sweatshirt and shorts. It's a Vikings character in sports garb...'cept for the jorts.

Yesterday I heard one of their cashiers call a customer RG Kelly. I thought that was funny.
