“Our guys aren’t going to catch the virus on the football field. They’re going to catch it on campus. The argument then should probably be we shouldn’t be having school.”

Here is more of what the coach said.
Read his comments and then tell me if you agree with him!

“It’s going to be a challenge when the other students get on campus, and I get that. We really don’t know what that entails until it happens. It’s a big reason we pushed the season back- to assess that, which is the prudent way to do it...
We test anybody that has symptoms and have an open testing site where they can go and get tested as many times as they want or any time they feel like they need to. But our guys aren’t going to catch the virus on the football field. They’re going to catch it on campus.
...The argument then should probably be, ‘We shouldn’t be having school.’ That’s the argument. Why is it, ‘We shouldn’t be playing football?’ Why has that become the argument?”
Coach N. Saban

Fans need football. I for one am sick of all the talk about covid and blm. In my opinion, if players want to play and coaches want to coach, then I want to see them play. On the other side, I won't fault anyone who does not feel comfortable playing.

Not to make this a political post.....but this is a bunch of hooey. Yes the virus is real, but the regular ole flu is worse and deadlier than the "rona".

Sweden hasn't done any of this crap and are almost to the point of being "herd" immunity. Kind of like when we were kids and people would bring their kids over so that they could get the chicken pox and get it over with.

For 99.9% of the student population it is something they will get over rather quickly. If you are worried about your child getting it, then make them stay home.

From my vantage point (working in the healthcare field). I think the old people, especially those that are immunocompromised, are really the only ones that should be masking/quarantine/cautious about all of this. Everyone else. Get out and live a normal life. Get it, deal with it, and get over it.

They should just cancel the season for everyone, keep the players on campus, in a controlled environment, where they have the medical facilities to handle this and let them just continue to do off season workouts, right through to next fall camp, to keep them in shape. Any of those that declare, they get taken in by the team that drafts them, to an immediate off season camp, for the same thing, workouts and medical observation. If they do not get drafted, they can stay with the school until they have a vaccine in play. Those may lose their eligibility but should not be thrown to the wolves at that point. The NCAA and NFL should approve all of this, without hesitation.

I agree with most of this!

One place I see stumble is the Super Seniors... Most schools can't afford 100+ scholarships. We would be getting to the point of delaying the incoming freshman' development... And setting schools back financially... Basically causing 2 issues instead of just 1.

Not going to pretend to have an answer, because I agree with the principle that the Seniors are getting hosed and deserve an opportunity to play. I just don't see how having 6 classes (if you count red shirts) can work well, both on and off the field (financially).

I plan to get in the line for the new vaccine right behind all government workers/congress members/all big pharma BOT/Bill Gates and his family as well as every associate at the CDC/NIH/AMA/NIH...get behind me

It’s nothing like the flu. I am healthy, workout religiously, do jit jitsu, am in good shape and I’ll tell anybody COVID sucks. It’s the worst I’ve ever felt and it’s not even close.

It’s not the “normal” people everybody is worried about it’s about people giving it to somebody and that person going around an immunocompromised person and them getting it. So, everybody should wear a mask when social distancing can’t be followed. Now I will say I’m in law enforcement and not the healthcare field, so take it for what it’s worth

So you're saying the flu doesn't make you feel bad for all those aforementioned reasons, but Covid did, so that's why they're different?

One thing I can say is that I have never heard of anyone with the flu that felt fine, but I have heard that about covid. I have also heard of the flu killing folks, like I have covid. So while covid may have made you feel bad, it's not necessarily making others, whereas we can all agree the flu makes you feel like crap every time, and it's contagious as well.

Through the years, I have heard many people with a common cold say that they have the flu, while working or otherwise carrying on their daily routines. I can personally attest to the fact that the real honest to God flu will put you on your back for several days. It makes your whole body ache.
It will make you feel like a dog turd that's been run over by a Mack truck. It aint nothing to play with. It will kill you graveyard dead. The flu is so many times worse than the worst cold you will ever have. Also , the flu can have long lasting effects. See article below.

Ya know, you're disagreeing with someone in the medical profession who is on the front lines of this. What he's saying mirrors what I've heard from a handful of doctors and registered nurses who are dealing with this as well.

I'm not discounting it hit you like a Mack truck. I think we can agree it has a different effect on everyone it hits. Hell, I've had sinus issues that made me feel worse than a stomach virus and dealt with sinus infections that had more of an effect on my respiratory system than pneumonia.

Everyone's mind and body reacts differently to pain, infections, diseases, sickness and all maladies. Some people have the hardest time with the simplest illness, while others are able to breeze through very terrible disease. We all have different tolerance levels in reacting to any sickness.

THIS! Only time I ever had the flu was the absolute worse I have ever felt. I was in my early 20s at the time too.

I barely survived the 1957 Asian Flu. Peaked in September in Alabama. Was my sophomore year in HS and every opening HS game was either postponed or cancelled. I spent five days in the hospital and thought I was going to die.
