🏈 Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry

Funny how quickly things change. Exactly one month ago, nobody was even a close second to Fournette. Many in the media were saying it was already his trophy. Just over 4 weeks later and he's not even making the trip to NYC.
Tis what happens when bamians yank thy cape from Superman.

Comments to multiple threads:

- Reynolds won the fan vote, but that doesn't carry much weight. It's a marketing tool to get people excited about the award.
- Yes, Reynolds broke the TD record, but the Heisman is not a lifetime achievement or career award. It is only for the season.
- They only invited three finalists to the ceremony because the rest of the pack was too far down the vote totals.
- Everybody that goes to Navy (or West Point or the Air Force Academy) is on scholarship. They are part of the military as of their induction date and are paid (not a lot) while they are there.
- The life of a midshipman or cadet isn't a typical college student-athlete. There is no redshirting and your time is scheduled from when they tell you to get up to when they tell you you can go to sleep. There are no easy courses to stay eligible. All students must participate in a sport - intercollegiate, intramural or club. They actually have full pad football teams for smaller/lighter cadets/midshipmen. Inspections are held every day. Any issues with the inspection and you're walking the yard to work off demerits. They do get about 30 days off in the summer.

My vote is for Henry first, McCaffrey second and Watson third. Rumor is its close.

Dude, unrustle your jimmies .

He did all that against some of the weakest defensive competition in the country, primarily those service academies. Clearly the Heisman voters see the same thing I do.

I'm not bashing cadets. So get off your fukking horse. I have a kid I coached in HS that earned a scholarship to Navy and is his backup right now. Kudos to ALL the cadets at ALL the service academies. You his uncle or something? I'm calling into question his inflated stats against weak defenses that my old, fat ass could score on.

This is football, dude. It's a football award. Not a service merit award.

You're a damn terrorist SLO

I think the order of finish will be Henry, McCaffrey, and Watson. Henry faced 8 Top 50 rushing defenses and did serious damage against those squads. McCaffrey faced 3 Top 50 rushing defenses. Watson faced 4 Top 50 defenses period.

Doesn't matter what kind of defense he did it against, he played the schedule he was given and still accomplished what he did. How can you say he didn't earn it when all he did was break a big time record against the schedule he was given? I'm not his uncle, just a guy calling you out for making a dumb statement. How many guys play down to competition? Looking at his schedule they played Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Memphis, and Houston, all teams in the Top 25 that can claim decent defenses. By that standard Alabama didn't play many tough defenses.

And you actually did bash cadets with your comment calling them nerds and trying to inflate the vote.

Say what you want, but he earned his seat, all while living to a standard Dard these other guys aren't. And you know why, because most of these other guys couldn't do it day to day like he does. So no jimmies to get untangled, just taking the opportunity to show that your comments make no sense.

Oh, they make a ton of sense. So much so, that the Heisman voters saw the same things I did.

Decent defenses? Maybe Notre Shame.

And you're trying to say that Bama didn't face tough defenses all fukking year? Henry played HIS BEST against the best defenses.

Tell you what... since you'really trying to discount my assessment of all the "elite" defenses this kid faced, why don't you give me the rankings of all those defenses? Out of just the top 25 "juggernaut" teams you mentioned, I'd bet that Notre Shame is the only defense ranked in the top 50...MAYBE.

I just looked. Take a look yourself and school yourself on my point. Me posting it will do no good, but you actually digging may apply a little knowledge.

And five teams we played were in the bottom seven of the SEC. I know Henry played well and never talked his efforts down one bit. I said by your comments. As a coach I think you would be able to put your bias aside and acknowledge a huge accomplishment and an effort. In college, everyone is good. So your bull-shit statement he didn't play anyone is garbage. And a team he played beat the team that beat us, so his competition was better than you give him credit for. The fact you say Notre Shame just goes to show you're reaching and can't have the honest conversation on the matter, but gotta throw in little quips to sound kewl.
