I certainly wouldn't object to seeing the media, and public, removed (or at least have their say less valuable as you suggest.) Rabalais (New Orleans paper) said he voted Fournette #1 because he thought he deserved at least one first place vote. Again, not the intention of the voting process.

I'm all but certain if their vote was weighted so heavily, the scrutiny it would be under would be a self-policing factor for that group. As it stands, 58 votes out of 929 isn't decisive, so Staubach throwing away a vote for moral support of Reynolds would hopefully be less likely as the impact would be far greater and heavily criticized.

However, bias can never be eliminated and both of those voters may truly believe each was the most deserving.

It's like voting for the independent... you know it's a waste to go away from mainstream but you are comfortable with the vote.

In 20 years (or less) the trophy isn't going to mean what it does today or what it meant 20 years ago.

I'd be very hard to convince there's not a significant portion of the media (print, TV, and radio) who believe it's their award to hand out.

Their butthurt is too damn funny. I especially liked where that stupid ass Ashley Spry said that Henry was not that good because "SEC defenses were down, anyway". Oh, well, I guess the Heisman should not be awarded in seasons where defenses are down. Gotcha, there Ashley.
