🏈 Heisman finalists revealed.

Haha, yea, if you thought Bennett was winning that award I got some land in a swamp to sell you. It's a team AND individual award. You have to have a stellar season and your team has to be in CFP contention or close. Bryce if he had a better season as a whole, would've likely gotten the nod over Stetson. They only gave him an invite because of the team, not because of the individual.

Georgia loses a game or two this year without him, so he was pretty on point. Let's not even mention his road to there compared to the others. Pretty good story. The others cane in polished, and he developed.

We knew the trophy no longer meant what it used to after Newton won it, followed by Winston. The whole finger nail painting deal from Williams is immature, tacky, and someone screaming look at me. Little things like that turn me off from them being labeled "embody the Heisman spirit". Duggan and Bennett personafied that age old saying more than the other two. I don't like Williams, but after his poor performance in the Pac-12 Championship and he still won it pisses me off how they penalized Tua for that exact same deal. I would have been fine with Stroud winning it, but Williams was not the best player in the country this season, not even close.

I mentioned this in some thread maybe even this one historically for us old timers we had the position that you guys (other teams) take these indiviual awards and we will take championships. I still feel this way. If one of our wins great but give the bama program championships. I know that can be viewed as out dated thinking and probably is by many but I still feel that way. Of course I have been happy for the Bama guys that won it but w/o the championships certainly not as meaningful.

Never figured him to win...or Stroud ( who was most hyped player of year).

The tcu QB .....but who watches big 12 football anyway......guy is a baller though..

But...the look at me crowd...its all about the ME....even our QB....going to the corner of the end zone for his moment all by himself before every game...... love BY ....but......
Have todo it in front of the whole crowd..?....whatever....

I would have voted Bennett...and how the heck Hooker wasnt invited ( but still in spirit of Tennessee having NO Heisman winner...lol) made that awesome

Well...how bout that Tide bball...

@50+yeartidefan you are letting those Vile fans influence you. As hard core Bama fan, You know we do not want anything positive for the Viles and Hooker going to NYC would have been one of those. Now you get to hear the Vile fans complain about him not going. Win Win :). Althoug I am sure you have heard some Vile fan say Hooker finished above Young....

Lots of feel good stories in CFB, that would be like awarding him a participation trophy in sports. IF he wants to win the Heisman he should earn it, not because his team was good and he came from less than stellar circumstances. Josh Jacobs was homeless and without an offer before Saban made his offer to the kid, we've all seen feel good stories but that doesn't mean they earned that trophy just because of those hardships. They certainly deserve something, but like someone said before I think Stetson is more like AJ McCaron or Greg M, he's a good manager of the game. He's not by any means an elite QB. He has a great offensive scheme from his coach, stellar receivers and TEs, a very good OL, and some decent running backs. He may hold the ball every possession, but that offense would do just fine without him back there. Ours without Bryce would look below average. Williams was the closest to the best this year, maybe an argument could be had for Max Duggan but Stroud and Bryce fell off cliffs this year and they needed to invite a 4th player so they brought Stetson. The voting should tell you all you need to know, this was only a 2 player race and Stetson/Stroud were invited just to add something to talk about.

Ummmm, he has played good enough to earn it. You not see where he is the quarterback of the #1 team in the country on an offense averaging over 40 a game??? No one ever said it's a participation trophy and no one ever said just hand it over to a three star feel good story. You cleary can't see the growth in his game that has elevated his team. It's all on film while playing in the toughest conference in tge country withvery few outside weapons (Bowers being it).

Caleb Williams plays in the lousy Pac-12 and has last year's Biletnicoff winner.

Stroud plays with Marvin Harrison Jr, Julian Flemming, Emeka Ebuka, and had Jaxson Smith Njigba last year, all five stars.

Do I really need to keep going here?

NOW, I do not see him as the best player in college gmfootball and even think Hooker at Tennessee shoukd have won it, and even Bryce is way more important than any of them. That being said, out of the finalist, Bennett stands for what the Heisman means more than the others.

The voting means absolutely zero to me. If you want to hang your hat on that, that's on you. That same vote costed Tua a Heisman due to that extra game where Williams wasn't penalized. Tge media loves him and you know LA had his back. Again, the vote means zero to me because Trevor Lawrence almost edged Davonta and did beat Mac and Najee two years ago, so hopefully you understand why it realky isn't showcasing reality.

@ mando

You know what. They have been very quiet about everything. More of relief than anything
Was at a party today and my sister in law who is a Vile fan and has always made it very clear she hates Bama. She could not refrain from letting her Vile colors show. Just who they are. Again I am an old timer I know but let your team go perform on the field and enjoy your win. No need to run your mouth but that has never been my experience with the Vile fans I know.

I'd say this, watch the draft, that will tell you more than needs be said in this thread about how much Stetson Bennet means to a football team. He will likely go in the 4th or later
Stetson Bennett Draft Profile: In the big picture, Bennett isn’t going to be near the top of the QB board in the 2023 NFL Draft. He grades out as a late Day 3 pick at best and could very well fall into the PFA pool. But there are some redeeming qualities within his report that could help him land a backup role.

This award has, traditionally, gone to the player who means the most to his college team, not what he might mean to an NFL squad. I see Bennett in a similar manner as Danny Wuerffel, himself a fourth round pick.

How many Heisman WINNERS have tanked in the NFL? How many outstanding QBs in college didn't win the Heisman? I wouldn't use Heisman success as a benchmark for NFL success.

What does that have to do with right now? Many Heisman winners bomb in the NFL after being high picks. Countless, countless others in that same boat, not necessarily Heisman guys, but All-Americans.

Last pick in the Draft last year embarrassed Miami and Tampa Bay the last two weeks.

I mean, if that were the case, it makes my point. Stetson doesn't mean much to his team, he's a good qb who can do some things with very good talent around him. He's capable of not losing games, he would have his picture next to game manager in the dictionary. Great for him, he's a cog in a very well built team's machine. He wouldn't be the engine that runs it. He's not even the best player on his offense, might not be in the top 5 on the offense. Which kinda destroys the argument of "he means more to the team".

Lots of winners haven't worked out in the NFL, would you also agree a lot of people who don't win the heisman also tanked or didn't even make it to the NFL? I mean, I'd say the percentage chance of a heisman making it vs non-heisman would be better for the Heisman winner.

Bennett had a few things going for him... it was a weak overall year, and injuries hurt guys like Bryce and Hooker. Also, he (his team) hasn't lost in forever, and are in the drivers seat to win their 2nd national title in a row. Add to that, it's his final year, so he gets that lifetime achievement bump. And he is really good, but IMO, the Burlsworth was more fitting for him than the Heisman. I know everyone dissects the meaning of most outstanding player vs. best player vs. most valuable, but Brock Bowers is the best football player on UGA's offense.
