Uniform Critics, a new website launching next week about sports uniforms, was the first to release a breaking news image of an Adidas display tonight that unveiled a pink uniform for Mississippi State. Here was the tweet and below is a larger version of the photo:

Mississippi State revealed three new uniforms last season. Dan Mullen announced the new Adidas TechFit uniforms for the 2012 season, and MSU also had two new uniforms for the Snow Bowl and Egg Bowl.

UPDATE- Scott Stricklin, the Mississippi State Athletic Director, responded to the uniform:

The pink football jersey … here’s the deal: Adidas is very creative. Many ideas are only concepts, like that one for breast cancer awareness

Liberal political correctness running amok. I'm sorry, but there's no place for this kind of thing in college football. This is some tree-hugging liberal coming up with the idea that if football teams wear pink then suddenly they care more than the average person, or that suddenly awareness will be brought to cancer, because there isn't enough awareness already. This is comical at best, but in a society like ours where the vast majority is dominated by the minority, it'll probably happen. Then there will be peace on Earth and we'll all live in a cancer-free utopia, because of pink uniforms. And Mississippi State cares more than you do, so... It's silly.

Again, anyone with half a brain realizes that this is silly.

And anyone with a half a brain doesn't think this is even close to a big deal as you're painting it. "this has no place in football" why exactly? Its a pink jersey, so? If they want to do it, good for them. I personally think it looks ridiculous and yes it's "silly" but going on about this being tree huggers or liberals or whatever other nonsense you want to is pretty silly too.

Vastly more silly than wearing a pink jersey.

Okay 14, you're really smart. Explain to me how wearing a pink jersey is going to help awareness of cancer? Because, I guess, we obviously don't have any awareness of cancer right now right? So how is this going to help? Why is wearing a pink jersey needed? Just answer that for me. It boggles my mind that some of you people are so ready to jump into insanity to look good. You're so ready to throw a pink jersey on a football team because you think it might make you look more caring or......again.....bottom line.......more politically correct. This is utter nonsense. But people respond and post on here like they actually BELIEVE this stuff. All of a sudden,. we're all going to wear pink in football games and the world is a better place. Sheer insanity. But you defend it, and believe it, which is the real troubling aspect of this.

Who cares? That isn't the point. Why is wearing Crimson needed?
I never defended anything. I could not possibly care any less about them wearing pink. Did I bring anything up about my thoughts/beliefs about wearing pink? I care so incredibly little that I didn't use extreme hyperbole to say something like, 'There's no place for this in mah footbaw'.

But I did point out the utter absurdity of someone else saying it.

:chat_headscratch: Uhhhh show me where anyone on here said it was a great idea or they liked it? We're just saying its not a big deal if someone WANTS to know matter how ridiculous WE think it looks (I've pretty clearly said more than once I think its horrid not because its some liberal conspiracy, but because the jerseys are just ugly and a pink jersey just sounds terrible in general). Is it gonna destroy a game because some team in Mississippi is wearing one, NO! Will it raise more awareness to breast cancer? No but neither does wearing pink t-shirts or pink ribbons or NFL teams wearing pink gloves and cleats. It makes people feel like it does, so what? If Bama were gonna do pink jerseys yes I would HATE it, because it would look awful. Not for any other reason. They wanna wear pink gloves or cleats for a game? I dont care.

Whoa. Swing...and a miss.

Thats taking it a lil far. I think the gloves, towels, cleats, etc. players do in the NFL every year are fine but full on pink uniforms...yikes.

A line drive to the right center field for a base hit.

We're in an age where "look at this special uniform" is becoming a trend. This is one of those cases where Adidas is doing so with three different uniforms they unveiled for MSU.

The "Power of Pink" fund-raising is a great cause. In fact, the way GymTide does it annually is one of the best "productions" I've seen a team put together.

However, here, we don't see Adidas launching this as a plan for the "Power in Pink" campaign. We see them displaying three uniforms and then the MSU AD say, "Oh, by the way, this is for..."

Poor management in the PR department in the very least.

Is it over the top with the uniform trend of today? I don't see any argument to combat that...especially given they are also displaying the "combat look" pants to go with the jersey.

I don't think it's a political issue, lol. I'm a "tree-hugging liberal", and I don't think breast cancer awareness has anything to do with 'political correctness'. It just seems like the school wanted to do something "out there" and get attention. I mean, it IS Mississippi State! :tongue-new:

It's not the end of the world, it's just a pink jersey. It's a color. Not sure why folks are so up in arms about it. Heck, Oregon's weekly uniform parade probably irritates me more than a pink jersey!

I don't mind them. I personally don't think it raises awareness, but neither does me shaving my head every year for St Baldrick's, but people like to feel and think like they're making a difference.

I think this sums it up pretty nicely.

It's certainly different, and let's be real, it probably won't raise awareness of breast cancer, but why can't the school do what they want? Who cares? Even if Bama did it, I wouldn't care. At the end of the day, it's about how they play, not how they look!

I tend to agree with Chop, I think this is more about look at me to get attention than it is to promote breast cancer, I mean are we going to start giving each cancer a jersey color for sports? I dont really care either way but if this makes someone feel better than so be it, but if you really want to make a difference dont wear a jersey donate to cancer societies or voluteer with cancer patients, I myself was a caregiver for my mom when she was alive who had pancreatic cancer, its much more important to be proactive if you want to help the fight against cancer by donating or volunteering than wearing a jersey in my opinion...but I guess everone has their view on this and no one is really wrong or no one person really right

To each his own with their opinion, right? I don't see clear evidence any side of this discussion is wrong.

However, risking repeating myself:

Does anyone see the "cart before the horse" here?

Here's the three new looks Adidas introduces for Miss. State.

And then, after the fact, "Oh, by the way, the pink is for..."

From a different point of view...

How many are you are familiar with the adage, "know you audience?"

Power of Pink does really well with women's sports. It's a great fund-raising effort we've had in Tuscaloosa for years now. So far, I've seen nothing that tells me this is a concerted effort to support those fund-raising efforts.

IF SO, they have my support despite an awful choice.

(Slightly off topic: Am I the only one who thinks these jersey's look like their maroon color but they happened to run into a wash cycle filled with bleach?)
