Good thing DJ was already gone from 'Bama when this report was released .. He probably would have been deemed permanently ineligible today as well ..

The NCAA has declared Tennessee senior defensive tackle Maurice Couch permanently ineligible, the school announced on Friday.

Couch was the only active football player named in a Yahoo! Sports report on improper benefits provided to SEC players. Former Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray, former Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, former Mississippi State wide receiver Chad Bumphis and former Alabama offensive tackle D.J. Fluker were also named in the report.

The Yahoo! Sports report alleges that Couch received four payments from former Alabama defensive lineman Luther Davis, who has reportedly been serving as a middle man between NFL-bound SEC stars and the agents/financial advisers looking for new clients. Records indicate that four transfers totaling $1,350 were made to Couch.

The school is planning to appeal the decision, likely citing their cooperation and willingness to suspend Couch once the news broke. In total, Couch has already missed six games of action. Recent precedent suggests that could suffice if the NCAA only alleges the $1,350 in improper benefits. By comparison, former Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green was suspended four games for profiting $1,000 off the sale of his game-worn bowl jersey in 2010.

As for the response from Couch, a husband and father of two:

@MoTrilla44: At the end of the day, what's most important is I have my family, my degree, and love n support from the Volnation!# salute

@MoTrilla44: And thanks to UT, coaches, teammates, Volnation, and everyone else involved sincerely appreciate everything you done for me. #salute

Thought these comments were interesting:

"Ha Ha Dix bama takes money from a coach 2 game suspension.

DJ fluker former bama gets $37000.00
Mo Couch $1350.00 permanently ineligible.
Now how do you explain this? Nothing will happen to bama Saban and his bud Mark Emmert will not let that happen"

"AJ Green sold a jersey that was his. He owned it. He also readily told the NCAA about it and paid the money back when he was told he couldn't do that. He had no idea selling something that belonged to him was wrong. In America can a person who owns something not sell it? Oh yeah, the NCAA is a joke and makes up the rules as they go along."

"Can't make fun of Tennessee because a former Bama guy was involved. Well........DAMN !!!!!!"

Ok, I will address the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

This probably.....probably....won't amount to much for Alabama but it may amount to something. The NCAA got, at least, a pound of flesh for suspending Couch and UT went without his services for most of the year. Obviously, the NCAA can't touch Fluker and they will seek their pound of flesh from BAMA in a different way. I'm just curious what they will have in mind?
