Yesterday was big day. I'd been planning a surprise 60th birthday party for my wife, disguised as a Fourth party (her birthday is 7/11) at some friends' place on Lake Allatoona a few miles from us in Acworth, GA. Allatoona is three lakes upstream from Logan Martin, on the Etowah River before it becomes the Coosa in Rome. She never saw it coming. Her twin sister was in on it. We had over 60 folks there, had BBQ pork and chicken, and I booked the Bourbon Brothers Band to play. We ended up at the lake's edge with a great view of Acworth's fireworks show.

I realized this morning I took no photos at all. I was just in the moment, relieved it had gotten here without a major snafu, and reveling in my wife's celebration. Some friends sent me a few photos:




We have a contract on the Georgia house, closing the end of the month. it was a great chance to celebrate with my wife's extensive network of friends, and to have a really good chance to have a last event before having to drive over once we've fully moved.

My friends just finished the home, sitting in the last cove before you get to the dam for Lake Acworth, a 260 acre subimpoundment built during the construction of Allatoona dam. The cove was full of boats watching the fireworks.

Geez. I saw a bunch of them last night. Riley Park was pretty close, Charleston Harbor within 1/2 mile, Riverfront park was easy,

-all from the terrace of MUSC.
