🏈 Granted, the question wasn't a good one. But, Marlon takes Finebaum to the mat on SEC QB's

Still don't understand the Finebaum love....or love to hate....or watch, read, or listen too.
Try one of his podcasts. Specifically those hours where he's interviewing. Like him or not, he's good at that aspect of his job. The majority of the time you can listen and avoid those you don't want to hear.

Here's an example from yesterday. I'd listen to hour two, but the rest don't intrigue me.

Finebaum does get some good guests on there to discuss various topics. You just have to wade through all of the bullshit. Podcast is the way to go.

Yep. If I'm in the car - and NOTHING worth listening to is on - I will turn to his show. If he has a good guest, then absolutely I'll leave the station there. If it's taking phone calls from listeners, I'm pushing a station button quickly.

PAWL!! Is an acquired taste. I used to hate him and listening to Tammy or I-man would make me cuss out loud inside my car. THen I read a book called Rammer Jammer which was about a guy who rode along with the Crimson Tide RV community for a season. Paul is mentioned in it several times and not always glowingly. I loved the book and started to listen more just to hear it for what it was. He was just a Sports version of a shock jock. He just would pick a side of a conversation and take a hard line position on it and get listeners all pissed off so they would call in and argue about it. 1 half would love him for his stance on the other would hate him so bad they had to listen to what stupid crap he was going to spew out next. He looks like Mr. Burns from the old Simpson's show to me and while I rarely agree with his position all he is trying to do is make his program popular so he can sell more advertising. It is all that its about.

Game, set, match.

Gmac called Fitzgerald the best QB in the SEC with the highest ceiling. I thought in a lot of ways, he was much more raw than Hurts. If he continues to feel compelled to run for over 1300 yards at the position he will find it hard to make a living in this league. He struggles with touch passes, reading coverages, and much like Hurts is off and running at the first sign of trouble. Where he's behind our signal caller is poise and leadership and I would have thought that that would have meant more to Gmac in the potential department, given that was what Greg did best and by a large margin.

Gmac is handicapped by being a Crimson Tider.....if he picks Bama in anything...he is called a HOMER.....I give him a pass on most things....
He is good...has good voice for TV....has a bright future and doesn't want the HOMER label to side track him..

@PurlJam , the new Seether CD is heavy and in your face. I haven't taken it out of my car's cd player since I bought it. Phyllis or Tammy or Jim or I-man...or what other idiot is the featured nutcase of the day try to be like that. They're just irritating as hell.

I'm sure @TerryP will love this analogy because of his absolute disdain for the guy, but I see Clay Travis as attempting to be the next Finebaum. It is like he is using his career as a template and working on mouthing off in order to be the next in line to take over after Pawl.

As DC stated, Paul is amazing at what he does. During our down years and Tubberville's rein, Paul was accused daily of being a Barner. Saban shows up and overnight Paul is a Bammer. He is a media whore that sales. And he is dang good at it.

Yes, and Scarbinsky tried to mimic Finebaum in print.

Fitzgerald made a couple of very impressive throws against us early last year before we began to bludgeon him. He will keep them up a few notches in the West, and probably bring home the Mississippi state championship a few more times, but he doesn't have the supporting cast to do much more. Remember, Prescott rushed for over 2,400 yards and passed for over 9,000 in his three years as a starter. He accounted for 80 TDs his last two years. Bama did okay against him.

Tim

I'll agree with you in the context of the "entertainment" side of what Travis does. When it comes to the "interviewing/journalistic" side he's not there, yet. I don't know if he'll ever make that mark especially considering his "role" has been to comment on things like the point spread(s,) etc., on their college football shows.

As I see this it comes down to how a person takes in his media. IE: How are you getting your news and information? I don't listen to the call-in portions of Finebaum's show. I don't care for a lot of the opinion side(s) we get from shows like Brando's, or Cowherd's. But, when they are talking about things that are in the news, and interviewing those figures in the news, the majority of the time it's worth taking five minutes to listen.

Just like people being selective with how they watch TV today--radio personalities and their shows can be followed in the same way.

@TerryP , totally agree. Paul does seem to take pride in being a good journalist. I can remember here in Alabama during the "off-season" when topics would turn to everything except sports, Paul would have some good interviews with folks. One of my favorites was Buddy Buie from Dothan (originally).
