Several SEC teams have new OCs...some with new head coaches. Here's how I rate them in week 1.

McElwain...A
Franklin (Alabama Tech)...C-
Claussen (Tenn)...F
Arkansas...B
Ole Miss...A

What do you think?

I'm gonna love listening to the Vol fans on the radio on my commute home today!

I wouldn't give a "F".
Look at the whole pic. Yeah they had 4 interceptions to work with.
But when they needed to score they did. They executed the 2 min drill to perfection. You cant blame all of this on him. The kicker has to make a 30 yarder!
But he did kinda suck.
I give him a "C"

If anyone failed miserably I think it is Franklin.
The hype that surrounded that attack was all anyone heard. Remember, 8 days of practice and they beat Clemson, wait till they have all summer to perfect it.
I didn't watch the game but seems the only time things went right was when they reverted back to TT's run game.
Also the comments he made about knowing better than to change out qb's they way he did and it was a stupid move by him to do so solidifies his failure( this week anyways)
That's why I grade Franklin a big F !

Foster had 7 yards per carry and Hardesty over 5 per carry. Should have run the ball 35-40 times. Tried to put too much on Crompton's shoulders. Should have learned from McElwain...and McElwain had a much more veteran QB to work with, yet he created an offensive plan that made it relatively simple for Wilson.

I thought about grading Franklin lower, but they did have over 300 yards on the ground and only one turnover.

Yes they did have a nice ground game.
What I was leaning towards was the fact that as a new ocordinator and his '' spread attack'' failure he didn't bring much to the table as far as change.

I think his debut was the least impressive of the guys.

McElwain...A
Franklin (Alabama Tech)...C-
Claussen (Tenn)...F
Arkansas...B
Ole Miss...A

I hate doing things like this after one game because we really don't have a lot of history to look back at. Like Saban said, it's one game.

But, that's what we're doing here so I'll give it a shot.

Based solely on one game;

McElwain--A
What else can you say? Clemson came into the game with a top10 defense last year and they looked atrocious. Partly due to McElwain.

Franklin--C-
They won of sheer talent alone. The gameplan wasn't there, the scheme wasn't there, and there was WAYYYYY to much flip-flopping on quarterbacks. Neither could throw it into the ocean during this one. AU's ground game saved the day.

Claussen--F
With UT running it very effectively Claussen chose to abandon it later in the contest and rely on Crompton. Crompton was pretty bad, and some of it was likely due to playcalling.

Arkansas--D
Okay, they beat Southwestern Western Northern Midwestern School for the Athletically Challanged by a couple. And Casey Dick is the QB there in a passing attack. Something doesn't add up.

Ole Miss--B
Well, they scored a ton on Memphis, but chances are, Memphis is just lousy. But hey, they scored a lot and moved the ball so...

I'd give Norm Chow an A for getting the W with a third string qb, after losing his starting RB and TE during the game. Of course it surprises no one when Norm Chow comes up with a winning plan.

OC's are notorious for trying to do too much. Clawson was one of those last night.

I actually have nothing to say about your post, but as one living on the gulf coast I was just wondering how much it will take to get you to switch avitars?

What's the justification for giving McElwain an "A" again? I'm happy for the win, don't get me wrong, but I think a trained monkey could have run Coffee or Ingram up the middle on every play. I remember in the early 90's, Mal Moore entered many a game with that very same game plan and most folks would have given him an "F". The "A" should go to Scott Cochran for building a physically superior line.

The question is; When a departure (Applewhite) was so good for a team?

RTR,

Based on Saturday's tight end production, perhaps that should read, "When were departures (Applewhite, Middleton) so good for a team?

One thing about Saban that dates back to his time at Michigan State. When he replaces coaches, it's always an upgrade.
