Back in 2019 Bama opened the season with eight wins until their loss to LSU. In that bye week we were hearing talk about Penn State being a playoff contender. During a season, it was probably the last time we heard playoffs and Penn State in the same sentence unless they were talking about their opponents. They started 8-0 that year as well.
Since then Franklin's teams have looked a little better than Fulmer's teams at UT when his career was coming to and end in Knoxville: they weren't beating the teams they should.
Since PSU took that loss (Minnesota) they're a .500 ball club (14-13,) sort of. They are two games over .500 in games against P5 teams and games against B1G teams. If you'll recall, their last loss was in their bowl game to Arkansas.
Now Auburn in week three. In Auburn. Penn State opens with a conference game this season so their focus can't be just on week three.
