I just came across this...I'll have to check it out.

It came after reading an article about a deli meat. When's the last time you ate any olive loaf on a sandwich?

Maybe when I was a kid. But I would always pick out the olive. I love to eat olive too.
I don't care for them by themselves.

The thought of olive loaf does have me hankering a bit for a fried bologna sandwich. It's been YEARS since I've had one...thing is, I'd use one or two slices and then it's in the trash.

Olive loaf is not for me. Don't like them on our in anything

I like pickle loaf better
Now that I think about it ... it was pickled. I'm about convinced I was in school that last time. I've got this mental image of telling my mom to load the sandwich with Iceburg and mustard.

I can't remember the last time I bought packaged deli meat.

I looked at Publix, Harris Teeter, and Walmart and none of those carry the meat. I just wanted to see how much compared to say, Bologna...or just ham.

Haven't had pickle loaf in a long time. About given up on ALL packaged lunch meat. Too many additives and preservatives that are really unhealthy.
The best thing about them is they look like the containers are decent for storing other things though not much beats Chinese take out in this case.

My wife will go to the local deli and get 2 pieces of bologna to make her a fried bologna sandwich about twice a year. She absolutely refuses to eat a cold sandwich.

Ya...I'm already cooking two meals...ate that sandwich before I wrote that post.

In the hopes I make someone shudder:

Cream cheese,
Cucumber,
Sliced tomato,
lightly toasted bread (Sara Lee Hawaiian in this case ... )
...a couple of peperoncini's ...

I'd take the beer and tell you I already ate
Appetite has entered the chat and said, "he'd say, I'll wait until lunch is done."

  • A "light" (both in color and texture) sauce ... some might call it a cream of chicken, but that's not really the case.
  • A chicken breast divided in filets. Old Bay on one side, fresh ground black pepper on the other. Quick sear, then LO on the stove in olive oil; covered. Fork cut tender ... literally. NAILED those two as good as I've ever done in the past.
  • Broad egg noodles that I topped with those two.
  • Small side salad
  • Grilled asperagus
  • Corn on the cob: halved. (Microwaved, in husk, wrapped in a paper towel, with butter and Tobasco added inside the husk. Great flavor, even better aroma.)
  • some Texas toast with a ranch/butter drizzle ...
If I say so myself, damn good lunch.

Scoff if you like. I've never had a tomato that's better than the ones I get from John's Island. I've only had one variety I thought were better: Tiny Tim's, indeterminate. Half of those never made it in the house: just rinsed off outside and eaten.

The smoked cream cheese recipe I use from Meat Church and a nice slice of tomato?!?!? Oh, one hell of a tasteful sandwich!
