a brief look from the other side... http://www.gobblercountry.com/2009/9/6/1017889/virginia-tech-football-2009

some of the comments are funny.

I'm drunk. I'm exhausted. I haven't seen a box score. I just got back to Winfield's. My everything hurts. Hereeeeeee we go.

  • I feel like I've been to that game a lot of times.
  • Our offensive line is still terrible at pass blocking.
  • Alabama's conditioning won it the game. Our guys were gassed in the fourth quarter. Alabama's were energized.
  • Great game by Alabama's offensive line. McElroy had forever to throw all night.
  • Tyrod Taylor played a smart game and didn't do anything to cost us the game. I thought he played well.
  • Ryan Williams is going to be amazing.
  • I thought Mark Ingram was a good running back coming into tonight's game. I was wrong. He's a great running back.
  • We are the same team we were last season.
  • Looking at the out-of-town scoreboard, I think we still have a chance to win the ACC Coastal.
  • It was a hard-fought, well-played, cleanly-played game by both teams.
  • Our conference is absolutely horrible. Like, really, really horrible. The Southland might be a better conference. I know the CAA is.
  • Alabama fans were great with a couple of notable outliers. The Crimson Tide has a great fan base. I always reserve the right to have my mind changed about a fan base (like with LSU) and it certainly was this weekened. Crimson Tide fans were great. Not always the most football-savvy people, but they were very nice and very gracious before, during and after the game.
  • I got made by the Clubhouse Tailgate. Got an official shirt with a nickname and everything. It was an honor and completely unexpected. Love being around those guys.
  • There was never a point where Alabama was on its heels while on defense. We are still a very easy team to prepare for and Alabama was prepared for everything we threw at them.
  • Uggggggggggggggggh. So frustrating. Again, I feel like I've been to that game a lot of times and my feeling after that game has gone from being sad to angry to now just frustrated.
  • Time for bed. See you Tuesday.
  • Drunken edit at 2:10 a.m. EDT: To Brandon Deaderick: Damn, son. Just. Damn. You are a man among men and you will always have my respect. Wow. I could never imagine anyone playing after going though what you went through.

Not always the most football savvy people? Never thought I'd hear that about Bama fans... Kinda makes me think this guy ran into someone who didn't know much about their football and made some assumptions.

Are you kidding? I go to BDS & hear the dumbest crap I have ever heard about football come out of Alabama fan's mouths. Dumbest yet:

"We need to get rid of Saban & get another coach." - After losing to Georgia in OT

Also, that guy must have been pretty drunk if he thought GMac had all night to throw the ball. Maybe in the 4th, but in the first half he was getting harassed more than I want my QB to be harassed.

You ain't kiddin. They showed a stat for him, can't remember exactly when but he had nearly 30 yards rushing with like 7 attempts I think. When a QB has to scramble that much, I wouldn't call that havin all night to throw.

Of course we have our idiots...every fan base does.

No kidding, at NO point in the game should GMac be leading the Tide i rushing yards....unless the first play from scrimmage he scrambles for positive yards & THEN you check the team's rushing yardage!

Gmac has nice pocket presence. He moved away and around most of the pressure all night. Oline did a good job of shielding him and turning blocks most of the night too.

We are going to have to get used to seeing GMac run the ball. Unlike some previous QB's we've had, if it's 3rd and 4 and he's got an openning to get a 1st he's going to run. Also, he will run on his own if he feels it's the right decision to avoid a negative play. He is more decisive than JPW and it will pay dividends for us. My only request is that he slide to avoid the big hits.

I noticed Saturday night, and confirmed it Sunday, that there was really only one time he took off running where I thought maybe he should have thrown it away.

It was a 3rd down, he'd rolled right but didn't make it.

However, if he had thrown it away it would have only made about a 1/2 yard difference in where the ball was spotted for the punt.

Fitz took care of the rest.

I'll be interested to see how that OL does the rest of the season...to see if it was us excelling or them sucking.

Coaching baby. Given the same number of hours in a week, we just out worked them there. I think of conditioning as one of the few places were everyone has a shot at being a champion...right Michigan?
  • We are the same team we were last season.
Funny. Isn't that what Clemson said last year? Boy we sure did get lucky scheduling underperforming teams didn't we?:lance:

One team, one game, and he has a full conference-wide assessment. Had the Flu hit Bama hard, would the assessment been the same?

Two points; First, I appreciate this and came away from the Music City Bowl with the same thoughts about them. Having a class coach like Beamer helps as well. (Of course the Vick boys don't help...but into every program walks a Jimmy Johns.) Second, they can smell Corndogs all the way in Blacksburg...So sorry for that Hokies.

I think he's referring to the whole ACC slate of games, which if you look at all their games then yes they are a bad conference. Two teams lost to Div 1AA opponents and most of their "name" teams looked really bad, even in their wins.
