ATLANTA - Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson is retiring, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Johnson, 61, has been the head coach at Georgia Tech since 2008. He has a career record of 82-59 in 11 seasons.

Before coming to Georgia Tech, Johnson was the head coach at Navy. He was the head coach at Georgia Southern before that.
Georgia Tech finished the season 7-5 (5-3 in the ACC) and is bowl eligible. The team will find out which bowl game they'll play in within the next few days.

Probably the best, and worst, thing to happen to GT. Best in that they were never going to win anything with that offense. The worst in that they have players suited for that offense and it will take several years before they can get away from it.

Who was that genius on here that said for like 2 years after Saban was hired that they should have went with Paul Johnson instead? lol

GT is gonna be AWFUL for years and years if they dont bring someone else to run the triple option.

Dabaxter.....he was all over the net hugging Johnson's.....errr johnson

Great potential at that job... Obviously Georgia with the great recruiting area, but also the opportunity to get kids that are serious about sports AND academics, which is something Stanford has capitalized on.

Gonna be tough for whoever takes over for a year or two considering the style of player they've recruited. But maybe they just look for another option coach? Either way good opportunity for the next HC

For real though, this would be a great move for him.

If all the detes about his contract renegotiation are legit, he's a 1 year lame duck at the barn.

He could jump on this and GT would be thrilled with 8 wins a year with the occasional 9-10 win season. No pressure for at least 3 years, and he could still lose to his in-state rival and make some noise in his division, and making it to the conference championship game every 2-3 years would keep the PTB very happy.

Dude. It's Malzahn.

Actually... this isn't a bad idea. I mean Malzahn's offense is just a spread version of the triple option. Could be a nice transition, so it wont be so harsh when you fire Malzahn lol

They won't be good running it. Might as well try awful.

This is true.
