1) 1st and 10 12:00 1st Q (Daniel Hill 5 yard rush)

Couple of points here. First off, the middle run is not great for numbers advantage here despite that Alabama blocks very well and gets push up front. Brailsford's man beats him (Keep and eye on this because it happens A LOT this game) we end up with a decent gain but could've been more. Also if we saw it aligned like this why didn't we do a bit of a counter here and let Brailsford go left or right depending on defending alignment because if he can hook this guy, which would've been easier to do, we leave Hill 1 on 1 vs the safety about 10 yards downfield. Not a bad call but could be better. Right side has the numbers we want left and middle don't.

2) 2nd and 5 11:17 1st Q (Daniel Hill Rush 2 yards)

1765240262951.png

This one is a good call. Remember we are on our 10-15 play sheet of our game starting script so things are going fine with that. However Hill runs right into the guy Edwards is blocking trying to make contact and drive him instead of using vision and cutting behind Formby. If he makes that cut and they over pursue he may be gone here on the left side. Safety is not in a good square position he's moving horizontally hard to tell but at least would've been a bigger pay likely 1st down. Bad vision by the RB here. O-line could use some better push but this is the kinda lanes you get in big time games. Game of INCHES gotta take everything that they give you.

3) 3rd and 3 10:35 1st Q (Lotzier Brooks Rush for No Gain)

Kinda the problem with our run game all year and issues with our offense recently. Here's another snap shot of it. Rico Scott misses an assignment and Brooks doesn't use his vision very well here, though hard to fault that. Would've liked him to cut this up and he'd likely be 1 v 1 on the backside safety there might only get a 5-10 yard gain but probably worth it. If he does get the block and goes Outside, I dunno how well he can outrun that LB that's already got an angle on him...maybe 3 yards though is possible with his speed. This is one of those plays where I just don't like the playcall. It was slow developing, it was to the side where the MLB was going to free likely either way I think the better play here would've been the sweep to Hill to the left with Brooks as the leading blocker.

1765240867996.png

I dunno why it has to be so hard or so much dressing sometimes the simplest solution is just find match-ups where you're favored in the numbers department and run it. Georgia ran a run play twice where the first time they ran it they weren't favored and it was blown up for 3 yard loss and they ran the same play for a touchdown later in the game. Some say they made an adjustment but they didn't they just had better numbers on during that call and didn't need to check out of it.

Going to do this one in parts also To be Continued in a bit

4) 1st and 10 8:06 1st Q (Daniel Hill Rush for 2 yards)

1765241562021.png

First off, all this window dressing and the LBs don't even budge one bit because they're in zone they are just keeping eyes on who enters their zone here or looking for run keys. So unless they are in man, there's no need to do 2 different fakes here and run receivers around. All it does it leave extra defenders near the LOS and make it harder to get blocks figured out and harder to beat the defense with all the DBs super close also. If you're doing something like this I don't mind the jet sweep motion to Ryan Williams but the backside Bernard movement just keys the defense to follow. Right here if you Left Bernard out wide left and Horton outside the numbers and motion Williams this way you could block this with advantage up the middle on an inside run but an off end/tackle run doesn't make sense here at all. I drew up my hypothetical run here and blocking assignments.

1765241582448.png

Carroll for some reason tries to hook his man on the inside and succeeds but he's blocking towards the hole they were trying to use. Edwards shouldn't be working up or chipping there, he should be releasing outside or directly to the LB Bernard breaks down and doesn't attack his block here. Need someone to come across and plaster that flat footed defender with authority there. Even with all that, those two free defenders in the back would likely plug this for a short gain. Not very well thought out or drawn up.

5) 2nd and 8 (Ty Simpson rush for -1 yard)

1765241717419.png

1765241729431.png

Not sure I like my QB doing read options with an inside run option here. I'd much rather have had him pull and run around the edge with Bernard and Hill as lead blockers or just given it to Bernard and see if he can make that one guy miss here. This is a tough read here I don't really like the play call a ton here. Numbers numbers numbers if Ty or Grubb take 10 seconds on this play, they can see the left side we have numbers why not check this to a Hill sweep left have the play dialed up for Bernard or a "LARRY" call for a Left audible where we run it to the left instead of the right. Or just have Hill and Bernard lead blocking and if Simpson runs lead left they got a blocker for everyone including the safety possible walk in TD here...just minute details and it all falls in two laps the OL and Coach and the OC.

6) 1st and 10 4:26 1st Q (Ak Dear 2 yard rush)

1765242140486.png

First off, not sure what Dear is doing that's a weird jab step trying to get the defenders to bite it just looks like he twisted his body randomly not sure what he's doing. Second I'm unsure what the heck this play design really is. We have Pritchett coming across the field on what LOOKS like a smash or hook block...he's either gonna smash that defender and create a hole or hook him and allow outside run. However, Carroll and Formby hook their guys and decide to drive him towards Edwards...pretty sure they screwed up the block here. Also Formby should be hooking and Caroll should be working up instead Formby works backside and Carroll turns his man the wrong way. It opens a lane, but not likely where we wanted to go. Vandermark is also VERY slow getting out here to the right side. I'd rather just have him and Brailsford double up on their man and let Pritchett do the smash and wall...send Bernard further outside to create more open space there and let Dear be 1 v 1 vs the safety in space on the right side. If it gets forced inside, that's fine probably still a 4-5 yard gain easily. Instead we get this mess and everyone's already covering the holes without being blocked...

7) 1st and 10 5:24 2nd Q (AK Dear Rush for 3 yards)

1765242599334.png

1765242628949.png

Proctor and Vandermark in the middle screw what could likely be a homerun play call right here. They get the numbers they want to the left and the run is to the left. They need Protcor and Vandermark to work up to the LB but they doubleteam one guy and never work to #3 in the middle there. IF they do once again Dear would likely be through the hole and 1 v 1 vs the safety in open space, could be a TD here if we just work our blocks correctly. One of those calls where it's perfect except nothing is and it results in a short gain.

8) 2nd and 7 4:59 2nd Q (Ryan Williams 5 yard rush)

1765242805373.png

Another call that probably should've been in the same formation but going the opposite direction.

1765242894647.png

Usually Jet sweep into the boundary is a terrible call, the Jet sweep is designed for speed to the outside to be able to run around the defenders but when they're so far outside the tackle and its the short side of the field we were just lucky Williams made this a good play with his athleticism.
If they swapped it to Larry I'll put a change for blockers and show you what I mean by how much more likely it would be to hit a home run here. Could even just have Hill be a lead blocker here and help whoever needs it.

1765243199077.png

9) 1st and 10 10:29 3rd Q (AK Dear 5 yard rush)

1765243242628.png

1765243377704.png

I'm not sure I like this play call as much either but it's effective if Brailsford isn't slow to catch the MLB here then it would've been Dear vs the Safety to stop a TD. However I WOULD make slight adjustments to make this way easier for blocking...

1765243696156.png

Here is an option, though an even easier option might be to pull Vandermark INSTEAD of Brailsford like the original play was drawn up since he's closer and would have a step or two on the LB block. Also Brailsford can easily hook his man he only needs around 1 second of a block because Dear is around the corner quick same with Carroll and Formby they could avoid combo blocks and just go straight for the backers with Vandermark and Formby and create numbers here.

10) 2nd and 5 10:00 3rd Q (Ty Simpson rush for -5 yards)

1765243788217.png

1765243798166.png

Kinda discombobulated another mistake, this time Dear is supposed to take this handoff. Simpson basically checks into the run seeing the numbers in their favor and decides to check into it but dear goes for pass pro on the right. I will say, the line makes a pretty decent hole in the middle here, Simpson just rolls left and slides...I'm not saying it's his fault but you can't give up that easily on the play you should be taught if the RB doesn't take the handoff then you either throw it away at the RBs feet or hit the hole yourself. If he hits the hole himself he likely gets the first down and more here. If he throws it at Dears feet at least it's not 3rd and 10 on the next play. Situational awareness is key and mistakes like these kill teams and drives.

11) 2nd and 6 5:12 3rd Q (Daniel Hill rush for 2 yards)

1765244135184.png

This goes for 2 yards in a box that should be good for us. Consistently if you look at a lot of these rushes that are set-up and only go for 1-2 yards even with the poor play calling and inability to find better numbers we lose 1 v 1 battles. Here we lose multiple 1 v 1 battles and Hill gets tackled on one that should've been an easy 1st down.

Overall:

SIMPLE MISTAKES EVERYWHERE is the problem the good news is they are SIMPLE mistakes so we can fix them. I think the only complex issue right now is the play calling and not being able to count numbers and make adjustments so far. OL needs to learn how to win 1 v 1 battles and we need Brailsford healthy, multiple times here we had a decent play but Brailsford gets beat or doesn't make it to the block because he's injured we need to avoid those mistakes if we wanna go anywhere in the playoff.

Anyways that's it for me for the week, have a good one guys I hope you all have enjoyed these and it warms my heart the support and comments I'm getting.

I guess that proves how A BAMA team can have NEGATIVE 3 yards rushing. I don’t even care which coach it is needs to be taken behind the barn and shown the error of their ways!!!!!!!!!!
UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

SIMPLE MISTAKES EVERYWHERE

After 13 games. There are so many areas that have major issues that is really difficult to understand what really the problem for this team/staff is.

I am afraid this season isn't going to end well. Just losing the game is one thing but all the other side dishes for a complete offseason will not be great. Regardless, year 3 is going to tell the tale.
