Thoughts are with ya Coach!

Dye and Stallings coached together at Alabama for a year or two back in the mid 60's.

Coach Stallings told a story to me his first year from his early career with Coach Bryant at UA. Each player had come up an introduced ourselves to Coach and told him where we were from and what school. I told him B'ham because I just knew he wouldn't have a clue as to where Corner High School was. He quickly made me look like an idiot. He said, "son, B'ham is a pretty damn big place with a lot of schools. Which school did you attend?" I replied, "Coach, you wouldn't know it because it wasn't a big school and wasn't known for its football. It is North of B'ham, up I 65."
Coach Stallings then came back and said, "son, you either went to Gardendale, Jordan, Warrior, Corner, or Hayden." I'm standing there with my mouth open catching flies!! "Hell, Coach Bryant had me in charge of recruiting that area! Right about Corner though. Football wasn't really their game but those boys sure could play basketball!"
That was when I was sold on Coach Stallings! Before he had ever led a practice, I knew that he cared about us and that he would do his best to make each of us successful.

I know all about that area, as it was the southern part of my area for Nielsen. My area was all of Cherokee, Etowah, Calhoun, St Clair and Blount Co, along with the northern edge of Jefferson and the eastern edge of Cullman. Burnt those roads up.

@bamachine, my old high school, Corner and that community truly lived up to its name. You literally could stand in the "corner" of Jefferson County where the place was, take a rock and throw it left into Walker County. Take another rock and sling it to the right into Blount County.
