LOL, my feelings on Gary are well documented around here... I'm not as harsh on him as most. I'm kind with @BamaFan334 for the most part. He did some things that irritated me, but he always came across as a genuinely nice guy who loved the sport he was covering and had immense respect for Alabama during those Saban years. To me, his biggest sin was trying to create storylines within games instead of just letting the game itself be the story. We all know how he'd harp endlessly on a missed call or replay review, 99% of which would have no bearing on the outcome of the game. I don't think he was helped much though that for many years his partner was Vern Lundquist... and another nice, well-meaning guy, but a guy in the twilight of his career who struggled in the spotlight of big time SEC games. Seems like he'd be a fun guy to sit next to on a flight though... I bet he has some good stories. Vern too, for that matter.

Gary was better under Brad.... terrible under Vern was... was...terrible....

But give the devil his due....he was always prepared....

With the exception of Mowens getting the name correct, getting things like balls, strikes, downs, yard line, etc., correct...doesn't bitch about the littlest things for hours on end...it doesn't sound like the WWE announcers calling sports games.
