Per Ben Jones, Tidesports.com:
Aaron was still out today, so you get me at practice for the second day in a row. Alabama was in full pads but some on-and-off storms chased them inside today.
Spent more time today watching the wide receivers (and by proxy, the quarterbacks). Overall, I thought the QBs looked sharp today. I think I only saw one incompletion that wasn't a drop. Good showings all around as Wisconsin prep continued.
I meant to take a closer look at Calvin Ridley today (more on him in a bit), but Robert Foster looked really good today. He was one of the first two or three receivers going through drills, and I think that's a move up for him. Showed some impressive athleticism on jump balls (no defenders) and was probably the quickest in and out of his cuts of any receiver today. Don't know if I've paid much attention to him before today but I was impressed with what I saw. Looked good on deep routes and on some underneath patterns, like when they worked on some rub routes with two receivers going at the same time.
Calvin Ridley looks like he's going to be in the receiver rotation, but at this point I'd be surprised if he's among the three starters. You see him out there and he doesn't immediately stand out physically (6-1/188) but he's so comfortable in everything he does. His presence reminds me a little of Travis Rudolph, who was a freshman at FSU last year and should be their No. 1 guy this year. He's quick off the line of scrimmage, adjusts to the ball naturally when it's in mid-air on intermediate and deep routes, and can lunge at the end of a route to extend his catch radius when he needs to do so. Most of the time he makes his adjustments during the route and doesn't need to make a last-minute grab at the ball, but on some of the shorter routes where there isn't time to do that, he still goes and gets the ball with some force when it arrives.
Also, saw Deionte Thompson with a nice catch that he tipped to himself a couple times. It wouldn't fly in a game but still shows good coordination and concentration to be able to do that on the run. One-handed catches are almost routine these days, but ArDarius Stewart had a nice one-handed grab of a ball that was behind him by a hair.
No practice tomorrow. Press conference with CNS on Monday.
