23 athletes have been suspended. As many as 20 won't participate in their bowl game and will miss the first 3 games in the '08 season as well.

This report was turned into the NCAA in September. As the story ends up, these players were given the answer before taking the quiz off of the internet. Two people within the FSU academic assitance program have been released.

No names have been mentioned as of yet and FSU is expected to conclude their investigation this week.

Word has it if they fight the suspension they may lose all of their eligibility.

One nagging question with no answer yet is if any of these players participated in any games this season.

<---- sitting here thankful we didn't lose any to academic ineligibility this fall...

Also big news on Jimbo's contract. Looks like FSU may have to endure up to 3 more seasons with Papa at the helm

Florida State also designated offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher as Bowden's eventual successor. Fisher's new contract calls for him to replace Bowden by the end of the 2010 season. If Fisher isn't named FSU's new coach by then, the school's booster organization would owe him $2.5 million. Under the terms of the new contract, Fisher would owe Seminoles boosters $2.5 million if he leaves the school before the end of the 2010 season.

Cheating is cheating. I say suspend everyone of them involved. 1,2,3 games, whatever. I don't have a problem with it at all. I didn't get to cheat in tests, nobody does, why should they?

Bobby will be there 1-2 more years, and Jimbo will be in charge. I would expect FSU to go in a different direction, as in the direction Bobby had them when he was in his prime.

Only worried about the bowl game?

"Kentucky would be a tough opponent when we are at full strength so clearly this will make things more difficult," Bowden said. "Our staff is in the process of determining what adjustments we must make for the game."

You lose 25 players due to rampant cheating, and all you comment on is the bowl game?

My only regret is that this didn't happen in late September.

One of the TV national news channels (have no idea which one...so freakin' many) had a report on this story this morning. The reporter they interviewed that has been covering FSU for @ three decades said 12 starters are going to miss the game.

The thing about this that really stands out is that 23 players are going to receive discipline. What number of them probably DID break the rules, but were not found to have done so by the administration? I mean, at FSU, players have regularly gotten a break when it comes to academics in favor of having them on the field.

Most of us have always questioned the eligibility of some of these guys anyway. How many of us have uttered the words "How did that guy get qualified?" And not just at FSU, but at other fine institutions as well? There have even been times when I've questioned my own Alma Mater, the U of A. All that being said, I can confidently say that Bama is running the cleanest program in the NATION right now. That's right. I said it. I believe that Vandy would bend the rules before UA would.

We've had our fill of the Nazis and we walk a tight, tight line nowadays.

ESPN reporting 34 players out for the game...WOW!

LINK

They've bumped it up to 36 now!!! How many total players can you have (including walkons)?

125 may be the limit to walk-ons? SEC travel allows 65 for SEC games...I have no idea how it works in bowl games.

A Music History test cost them a Music City Bowl...irony.

Kentucky should roll in this game.

I've got to feel for the 'Cats in a way. Here they have a great season by their standards, make it to a bowl game, and all anyone is going to hear is about FSU instead of what the 'Cats have accomplished.

Who is coaching your bowl game, BTW?

Reggie Herring, the DC. Funny thing is though, Nutt could not wait on him at Ole Miss and he hired the SC DC. I hope Petrino keeps Herring.

Yeah, I knew he had hired Nix. Considering the talent USCw had on hand for Nix to work with I think he did a fairly decent job. They lacked talented depth and the injuries just killed them this past year.

They have hired a pretty solid DC in Brian Van Gorder up in Columbia, but I do wonder if it will make the difference. Gorder had some hellacious defenses in Georgia, but recruiting in the GA area is a different ball game (as in T-ball to MLB) than it is in South Carolina.

Seems SC won out of the whole DC deal. They got a good one in VanGorder,IMO. He only left Georgia for a NFL job, be interesting to see how well he does returning to the SEC. You might be right about the recruiting aspect, it should be very different.
