A stretch? No. Not at all. Fisher left that program in shambles. How you can't see that? I have no clue.

The only reason FSU made it to a bowl game his last season was an addition to their schedule in Decemberā€”a game they bought with La Monroe. Otherwise, we'd have seen them at home during bowl season in 2017-'18 just like we did in 2018-'19. Hell, his best win in his final year was against an eight win Wake Forest team (unless you think their bowl win against an eight win Southern Miss team is more notable.)

  • His players, both past and those there at the time, pointed to him as the reason.
  • His assistant coaches point to him as the reason (adding their only instructions were to keep players eligible.) Look no more than the APR for verification on how he dropped the ball there.

One needs only to look at how he handled Winston to get an idea on how big of a mess their locker room was in when he hightailed it out of Tallahassee.

His recruiting? Oh gawd. Just look at what happened with one position, quarterbacks, and you'll see how badly he did.

I said since the day Taggart was hired I thought it was a bad hire. The optics it was viewed under were a little suspect, in my view, lauding the make-up (racially) of the staff he assembled versus what he brought to the field.

Attendance down.
Academics in the tank.
A multi-million dollar deficit in their budget
12-13 over the last two years ('17-'18)

But no. He didn't leave the program in a mess? Come on, now.

He's quietly had a pretty good season down there. After opening with a loss to Ohio State (smallest margin of victory this season for the Buckeyes has been 24: FAU and MSU) and their loss to UCF his team has won six of their last seven.

So is kiffin a good hire as HC?.....good OC no doubt.... are there better?
No real success. Take a chance on him?
 
I understand that many at FSU wanted nothing to do with Jimbo anymore. He was too much to deal with. I'm not talking about players or coaches, I'm talking about people at FSU.

I suspect FSU will fall behind further. I'm not convinced their AD is the right guy and I'm not convinced they'll hire the right person. Most want a quick flashy hire. They need someone with a vision and someone who'll execute that vision.

Every job is open for a reason... Rarely, if ever, is it a good one.

It's not the inability to win that got him fired. It was his inability to be competitive.

In 1.5 seasons you can't lose by 16+ points 8 times and expect to keep your job at FSU, regardless of how the program was left when you got it.

Gotta recruit and get more talent.......for sure....

What you're saying here is all true. It still doesn't account for the mess Jimbo left in Tallahassee.

I've been "banging this drum" for awhile now. Jimbo, as a head coach, is not what he's described to be. Taggart was not the answer. If you have the time do a little reading today about the program and the shape it was in when he left. I'd dare say it was in worse shape than Bama at the end of '06.

But worse or less resources than Wake Forest, NC State, and Virginia? Not exactly football blue bloods...

We could go through the recruiting rankings but I'm guessing that talent wasn't the issue.

I'm sure Jimbo left it bad, but Taggart's job was to make FSU a destination again. That clearly isn't happening
 
@Tidestalker I'd guess the expenses from VA are about ā…”'s of what FSU is spending and pretty sure the revenue amounts are along the same lines (if that's what you're referring to with resources.)

Recruiting rankings spell lack of development which started long before Taggart.

You're right, it wasn't happening with Taggart. Was there any reason to think it would?

Let's remember here for a second. When he was hired what were the storylines? It wasn't about his coaching ability or his acumen for running a program. It was breaking the color barrier. It was the number of black coaches on his staff. That was the story from Tallahassee newspaper, from Orlando's and more.

It's my view the hire was done for effect.
