If you guys recall when Bama lost to Clemson in the title game in '16 it marked the end to a 26 game winning streak.

That streak marked the second longest in SEC history. The longest, a 28 games winning streak, is a SEC record Bama holds as well. Coach Bryant's teams ('78-'80.) That record was matched by Coach Stallings in his tenure in Tuscaloosa ('91-'93.)

From a SEC historical perspective Bama holds six of the 7 of the 10 longest winning streaks in history. That includes a 20 game winning streak under Wallace Wade. Saban has a 19 game winning streak ('09-'10) and Bryant holds another 19 game streak in the early '60's.

The win versus Georgia Saturday marked the fourth time a Saban team has won 15 games in a row. As it currently stands, with 15 game winning streaks:

Saban-4
Bryant-3
Wade-1
Stallings-1.

Coach Bryant's streak of at least 20 straight wins in the regular season:

26 straight from 1978-1980

24 straight from 1960-1962

22 straight from 1973-1974

21 straight from 1971-1972

I'm glad you brought this up because it showcases how well Saban has done with out of conference competition.

24 straight from 1960-1962
19 consecutive wins.
22 straight from 1973-1974
11 straight in '73, 11 in '74 as well.
21 straight from 1971-1972
10 straight in '71, 11 straight in '72.

Given that coach Bryant played a ton of power 5 schools, unlike this era of football, it would explain a lot as far as OOC games are concerned and the kind of schedule and attrition that was going on. It's not that unusual today to have elite teams who seldom play a top 25 team for the year. Creative scheduling at it's best.

What bothers you so much about Alabama's winning streaks during those 2 decades? If you want the real feel for coach Bryant's dominance and success against the non-directional schools we play today you don't have to qualify anything.

Coach Bryant.......ā€œThe old lessons (work, self-discipline, sacrifice, teamwork, fighting to achieve) aren’t being taught by many people other than football coaches these days. The football coach has a captive audience and can teach these lessons because the communication lines between himself and his players are more wide open than between kids and parents. We better teach these lessons or else the country’s future population will be made up of a majority of crooks, drug addicts, or people on relief.ā€

There's nothing that "bothers" me here.

It is of note we're talking about some of Bryant's teams who lost in the post season. With Saban, these winning streaks include post season games.

The point of my post was "consecutive wins" which couldn't have been spelled out more clearly. You threw in the qualifier of "the regular season." It doesn't diminish what Bryant accomplished, but it certainly enhances what Saban has done when the post season is included.

I'm sorry, but what? Are you now suggesting that Central Florida is an elite team? That's the first team in the rankings you'll find without a game against a ranked opponent. The next (if they are ranked) is likely North Dakota State.

This is the same song, second verse. Coach Bryant wasn't playing for playoff spots and the system wasn't set up for it. This is not what college football was for well over a hundred years. And when we weren't highly motivated for some of our bowl games with Saban we lost to lesser teams as well, like Utah and Oklahoma. For a guy that doesn't believe tooting coach Saban's horn at coach Bryant's expense is that big of a deal around here, coach Bryant's regular season winning streak sure seemed to hit a nerve. Have you figured out yet that coach Bryant is the Babe Ruth of college football and Alabama folklore? I think not.

I don't particularly care for this "record" because if you win all your games it would only count as 1 streak. Having multiple streaks mean you lose before and after the streak and I hate losing and I hate thinking about losing!
