🏈 Flying the team out to Pasadena!

Hi Sandra, it's Altie. You and I are pretty tight on this board and always have been. Just the other day I was thinking about how much you mean to this board, Sandra, and how valuable a poster you are to both I and everyone here.

But, back to me. If there was ever anyone here that I really, really, really trusted and admired, it was you Sandra. You with those things that you always talk about. Those things that you are always saying. You know what I am saying. I know what I am saying. Everyone knows what I am saying.

So, Sandra, in light of our decades and decades long friendship on this board and all of that kind of stuff that I am talking about, you know what I am talking about, I am going to ask you for a favor.

I need you to buy my little midget cousin a 'Bama shirt, Sandra. She is only 2'1" and only has one leg and she is relying on me to get her a 'Bama shirt signed by all the 'Bama players. It is her dream; her only dream in this old world to have a shirt like that.

Now, even though she is only 2'1" tall, the shirt that you buy for her needs to be an XL, Sandra. Don't ask why; she just loves big shirts. I don't even know why.

Take that shirt and you get everyone on that plane to sign it and tell them it is for a little midget girl with one leg.

Have them sign it, "To Altie". That is her name. I know, I know, it is weird that she has the same name that I have; I have never understood it either.

Anyway, if you just do this one thing for this poor child. I will pick the shirt up at some later date and give it to her for you, Sandra, and reimburse you for the price of the garment.

Thank you so much,

Altie

That is just so right and fair that you get to work that flight Delta.

I'd love to hear any stories that come from the flight; like the mood of the team, anything interesting said by the team or coaches, Is Cody still sitting next to CNS...?

Woohoo! Very excited about that! :a:

I've got to start getting my decorations in order. Two 757's will leave BHM on Jan. 1st. One with football team (the one I'm working) and one with staff. I have NO idea why they're not leaving from TCL. Team returns to TCL on the 8th. I'm not working that one since I'll be out in Pasadena for the game.

Roll Tide!

Awesome!

By the way, I see that you are in Lawrenceville. I lived there for about 5 years. I did my flight training over at LZU to get my private pilot's license.

Great news for you.

But your posts raises a REAL pet peeve with me.

Why in the Hades are we taking enough 'staff' to require a SECOND 757 jetliner? Good grief. And this is a regular event with the football team. Does it REALLY require 250 staff people and their families to accompany the team on a road trip?

Will there be anyone left in Tuscaloosa to answer the phones? (And good grief how lowly must that person feel when the assistant window washer and his wife are on an 'official business trip' to LA?)

Anyhoo. Good for you.

I guess you wouldn't want to hear about the charter(s) leaving on the 6th. I know of at least one 757, and this is not the band charter. It's not the football staff; it's UA administration. They're all staying in one location in Newport Beach, so I assume the University is picking up the tab for all of that.

I won't go into details, but not everyone on that charter is even in admin. (but I'll leave it at that). In fairness to the University though there has to be a cutoff at some point. I just hope it's done fairly and according to years of service. That's probably the only fair way to do it.

FANtastic work assignment, Sandra! Glad you are getting this opportunity.

Btw, didn't you also work a charter flight for the team during the 1992 NC trip? Maybe it was the return flight home? Then again, maybe I'm imagining things.

That imagination will get the best of you. ;)

The team didn't fly to or from New Orleans. They "convened" in order to get the travel money from the NCAA.

I think the only bowl I've flown the team to is the Blockbuster Bowl (i.e. David Palmer breakout vs. Colorado). I was on maternity leave for Orange Bowl and went to the Citrus Bowl on my own back in the 90's.

Shucks, I should have known better with New Orleans being so close. Was hoping you had worked the 92 NC trip and team was gonna have its "lucky rabbit's foot" with them again.

Yeah, it is best you keep me in the dark on those details.

Good grief, is there no end to the depth of people who feel the sense of entitlement of being rewarded with a free trip to some bowl or regular season football game.

Sometimes, when watching one of our games on television, I often wonder if there is room enough on the sidelines for the team what with all the 'connected' people milling around. Others schools are close, but no program exceeds our sideline extras.

Were I the UA coach, the first thing I would impose would be a rule that unless you presence on the sideline is critical to us winning that particular game then get your butt up in the bleachers or skyboxes and let us do our job without you cluttering up the workplace.

Of course a few money people and ex-players might have their feelings hurt.

Fourth page BamaDelta before I post on your thread. Don't forget to hollow loud for us that can't go. Yes let's not forget the Little Debbie either. We all want him happen going.:a:

That's awesome Delta! I know you'll start the trip off right for them!

As for the discussion of all the UA travelers... I read (or heard) a couple weeks ago that they are taking fewer AD and team staff on this trip than they did last year to New Orleans because of the cost. However, since they are going to be gone for a week, they said they are offering to take immediate family members of said UA staff (sorry if this was mentioned, I just skimmed though the posts).

Late posting to this because I have been in Orlando since Christmas and the computer is here in Cumming. Anyway, it looks like you took my advice back in the middle of the season when I told you to put in your bid for the Pasadena charter. I am so happy for you to get this trip, and it had to have been good for the team to have someone who cares so much for them as you do.

FWIW, Coach Bryant rewarded everyone who was even remotely involved with the football program when Bama went to a Bowl. With the money pouring in now from CBS/ESPN, I feel confident in saying that he would be doing just as much, if not more than, the current administration.
