🏀 Fiutak: Alabama vs Iona Prediction, Game Preview: NCAA Tournament First Round

We just need to be a little more patient on offense. Work the ball around and not so much one on one. Move the ball and get good shots. Petty is rushing his shots and has 3-4 turnovers this half. Hopefully, he will get to stroking in the second half. Lots of basketball to be played.

Agree Mike. We’ve missed a few good looks, but we’ve forced a bunch of shots when nothing was there. They’re playing tight D, but we’ve forced too many. We need to get some open looks at 3’s and this game will be over quick.

Good grief. If you add our free throw shooting and layup shooting percentages, we might break 100%... If you count missing the front of a 1 and 1 as missing 2, I’m sure we won’t make it to 100%.

Maybe they can relax now and play ball. At the moment Petty has no confidence he needs to get on track.
He is a veteran so hopefully he we get it turned around. Fortunately he is still contributing by defending at a high level.

If this team simply cleaned up the free throw line today it would have probably have been a 20 point win. I think this is what defending will get you. Not the best performance especially on offense but they still win by double digits and almost covered the betting line.

I’m afraid Bama won’t go deep into the Tournament playing like they did today. I keep hoping they’re going to get back to the Bama that looked so amazing earlier in the year. A big part of that would mean Petty would have to regain his confidence. Right now he has very little to none.

Thought about the game a little bit more. There are certainly teams that will have more depth and talent than Iona. What Iona had was a good defense on the perimeter and a shot blocker. At one time we had something like 9 blocks against us. Not sure where it ended. Pretty sure that was the only formula Pitino had against us. However you still have to score and the Bama D and depth did not let that happen. Also, the perimeter D for Iona was finally negated when we started forcing turnovers and got transition points. Pure speculation but we may not face a team that can defend the perimeter like Iona did. May be wishful thinking on my part.

The offense could certainly use a boost. Maybe getting Primo back could be that boost. I did see him participating in warmups. That was a good sign.

Bruner has simply not gotten back to his pre injury form. I guess it is to much to ask for that to occur with his injury but was hoping he would.

Come on Petty get it figured out your team needs you. You only have this one last shot at it. Relax and go do what you have been doing your whole life.

I didn't expect Bama to shoot it well, but did figure they'd have an easier time putting Iona away early. Quinerly is the spark that the team relies on right now on the offensive end. Good to see Reese nail his 3's. Petty had a very poor offensive game, but didn't let it distract from his defense, which is the big reason he's still getting more minutes IMO. He won the hard hat and was +12 for the game. For comparison sake, Ellis was -8.

Maryland just beat UCONN... IMO, that's the better matchup for Bama on Monday. Would be nice though if Maryland cools off from 3 by then (they were 9 of 18 against UCONN).
