Question on transfer/ coaching change.

The way I read the rules athletes have to wait 5 days after a coaching change but can then transfer immediately. Could a coach resign on Saturday after a game, take an open job, and have his whole team transfer to the new school and play the next Saturday? Scholarships are the only thing I can see preventing that, not sure if a scholarship can be terminated mid season, if not the numbers would prevent that scenario I think. But if a team had 22 walk ons could he cut them and take all of his starters?

If I’m understanding your question…

Players wouldn’t be eligible in a scenario like that. Schools all over the map wiggle around academic requirements and eligibility issues with student athletes to keep them on the field (or court), but there’s no wiggle room when a player withdraws like that before an academic semester closes. Another way of looking at from a different eligibility perspective though is, early signees or transfers that report in December… they can practice with the team but can’t play in postseason/bowl games.

Possible but not probable - for several reasons.

1. It’s too late to academically transfer in. Schools have last day to add/drop limits.
2. There are player roster limits
3. Cutting walkons doesn’t let you give scholarships
4. Are the assistant coaches quitting too? How do you implement your offense and defense with coaches that don’t know the system? You say bring the starting 22 but more than 22 play in a game.

Didn't think about the academic side, guess they are still student athletes.

It's a moot point due to Brandon's answer about academics, not sure how drops work or if they had already graduated...

I know there are rooster limits and more than 22 play was just saying the coach could cut the number of walkons and have that many transfer and if you had 22 walk ons you could bring your starting 22. In that scenario, using that as a loophole to get around roster limits if you couldn't cut scholarships mid season. I'm sure they could get an NIL deal to cover the cost of school so they wouldn't have scholarships until next year. Most assistant coaches leave when a HC leaves so yes I was speaking of the whole staff leaving and taking their best players with them.

I listened to the full press conference. Did he call out Jimmy Sexton and another prominent agent, or am I just hearing things? Because, if so.... good luck LSU. Lol.

He did. And while he's not necessarily wrong in some of his thinking, he's way out of his depth in handling it... IMO.
