🏈 🔥 Hot Seat 2025 / Coaching Carousel:

Okay. I'm not done. You don't think these things through.

Page 42 of this thread I mentioned why this is a good move.
I was kind of joking there... Beamer is eventually going to get South Carolina very good if they stick with him.. Franklin will probably keep them about the same.. my mother is a Clemson fan OK..

If I was the head football coach, IT WOULD BE MY STAFF... not a staff chosen by the athletic Director... not retreads like Frank Wilson... are you the head coach or not?... apparently Woodward's bullying didn't work.. because now BRIAN Kelly is $54 million richer... and hopefully he will not negotiate at all...
He's the head coach's boss and what the head coach has been doing obviously wasn't working so his boss intervened. If you want to do things your way you better make sure your way works unquestionably. Even then you're going to be asked to do interviews and fundraisers that you may not want to do. Saban is probably one of the only coaches recently with enough success that he could do pretty much whatever he wanted.

I've never had a job where I was required to do something I didn't like. Not even when I looked back to my Gap days and Eddie Bauer...
So you've never had to fire someone you didn't think deserved it or had to do a task in a way you knew wasn't the best or anything you've disagreed with? You've either been very lucky or you're ok with doing whatever someone tells you to do imo. I've had to disagree and commit numerous times.

Saban didn't resign when UA told him he had to fire Bo Davis. He also didn't resign when UA told him he couldn't hire Hugh Freeze or (rehire) Jeremy Pruitt.

I'm not defending Woodward here, as you mentioned, his poor decisions played a role in all of it. But AD's make "suggestions" or "demands" all the time, in all sports (if that is actually what happened in this case). Foley made the strong suggestion to Napier last year that he relinquish his play calling duties and just focus on being the HC. Napier declined and stuck with that he wanted to do. Things didn't improve, so he got fired.

The Bo Davis, Jeremy Pruitt and Hugh Freeze actions had nothing to do with coaching ability.
