🏈 🔥 Hot Seat 2025 / Coaching Carousel:

I don't remember the exact date. It was the first of this month. A good friend of mine who is linked into the LSU program (a few in Louisiana) mentions that the staff members at Tulane were expecting to be moving to Auburn.

A week later a guy I know in Mobile who is a member of TI mentions that Rodney had posted he'd heard the same story from his sources in the state.

It makes me wonder a bit.

If you are at Tulane and are planning on heading to Auburn ... then, a few weeks later find out it's not Auburn but Oxford, what's the reaction?

Not as a fan. In the profession of a coach. What's more appealing?

It's wild. We see careers die at Auburn. We've seen guys like Tubs use Ole Miss as a stepping stone to Auburn. I've never seen a head coach use Auburn as a stepping stone to a better job.

Just a crazy ass world to work in ...

LSU should not be allowed to hire or even negotiate with any coach, until the Brain Kelly situation is properly settled.. Not that I'm a Brian Kelly fan or anything.. No coach should even want to talk to them, until they make things right..

Their situation is doing them no favors... Kiffin doesn't give a shit because he embraces chaos. But there is a stink on what overall should be (is) a top notch job.

Let me try again, Does the university usually provide housing for the HC?
It varies. Sometimes a school will buy the house for a coach under certain conditions (coach pays installments up to a certain timeframe and then the school transfers ownership). This is rare and usually comes when a school doesn’t have the cash to pay. In most cases, no. The coach and his family are free to buy what they want.

If it was me (it’s not), I would stay clear of LSU because of the athletic department disaster that’s been exposed with Brian Kelly’s firing. Of course, having lots of money thrown around can make people avoid looking behind the curtain.

First of all, the NCAA should stop them.. but a state or federal lawsuit should've been initiated by Brian Kelly, for some type of restraining order..I suppose the issue is MOOT now, because LSU owned it today... It sounds like LSU may be ready to make a move on a coach quickly..
Kelly's interest ends with his contract and extends to no other agreements where's he's not a party.

NCAA has show-cause for coach transgressions. They would never prohibit a school from hiring any coach.

I'm trying to figure out when you owe a coach $54 million dollars.. Then refused to pay him... How you can legally hire another coach ... LSU was going to eventually lose that case..Today LSU basically admitted it...So I guess LSU will pay him now..
Brian Kelly will probably end up like Jimbo Fisher and not coach again, because people probably don't want him..

It would be icing on the cake if they could make him stay at the school in another role for the remainder of the contract to “earn” the pay they are giving him. Like make him a dishwasher in the cafeteria for the next 6 years. That would be fun.

I’d like to see a change in direction of these contracts and guarantees, but I doubt we will. These contracts have gone silly the last 15 or so years. The $$ paid for bragging rights is hard to swallow. I believe someone else will take a shot at Kelly, maybe not quite as much money, but someone will want the guy.

Agree on Kelly. If he wants to coach again, and he supposedly does, he will get a decent job... just might have to wait and pick what he likes. Nothing wrong with sitting out a year.

In a perfect world, the contracts would be much more incentive based... but unless/until the schools get the leverage to do such (which is never), the market will just have to sort it all out. But with schools on the hook for revenue sharing and such now... boosters having to fork over more and more to build and keep rosters... it just seems at some point, a line is going to get crossed financially. The coaches and players have (most) all the protection (as long as they stay between the lines). Meanwhile, the schools get bent over by the agents, backed into a corner, and give up the bank in fear of losing "their guy".

I could actually see him coaching at a service academy..
