šŸˆ šŸ”„ Hot Seat 2025 / Coaching Carousel: OL Coach Kap and Alabama part ways

Ohio State made it both times, winning it once for $20M.
If you think Ohio State won it with only $20 million last year, you're sadly mistaken. They even admitted they spent way more on last years team and just following the NIL deals and adding them up you can tell their range last year was 40-50 million when they won it all. They paid out more lucrative deals this year but they also dropped a lot of players due to the draft so they settled for spending less this year (They saw this year as a development year) so it goes to show developing doesn't mean you can't make the playoffs. However as much as Big 10 fans wanna toot their own horn, the reason teams like that make the playoffs during those years is the sheer amount of teams in their conference that are bottom feeders and special treatment with schedules. The Big 10 unlike the SEC caters to the higher end teams to make sure they have high ranked teams each year....I think SEC should definitely start looking into it and I also think that the Big 10 should adopt a better schedule and not have 3-4 cupcake teams before their first real test (Just look at Indiana's first 4 games next year)

Their conference beat our asses the last two years, so not sure how we can day anything regarding how bottomfeeder they are.

I have not seen where they admitted to spending $40 or $50M last year or this year. How much did Indiana spend this year?

Where is that data? We hear these numbers, but are they substantiated?

Guesstimations is the only thing out there. There's the $20 in revenue share each school gets, but most won't say how much is dedicated to football. From there, you've got the collective/NIL money, and nobody is going to publicly share that into (schools don't even want teammates sharing with each other how much they get). Beyond that, you have the dark money, the under the table stuff, and nobody is going to even acknowledge that slice of the pie.

I do think some guesstimations thrown around are in the ballpark though. Others, not so much. JMO.

Time will tell. CKD just needs to put a product on the field that dominates his opponent not one that gets dominated by anyone.
So you want CKD to put a product on the field that dominates his opponents? You understand that's nearly impossible in this NIL culture? It's not easy to go and dominate a team every week.

I think the realistic expectation that every fans should have for CKD is to put a good product on the field, and put the team in the best position to win the game each week. That's all we should ask for at this point.

Then there’s all the cars that are on top of the money. Some are leases, some are gifts. Many of the rides are over $100k. There’s no telling what is in the dark, off the books, money deals that are being handed out. You think about us paying a guy like MBakwe $1MM or more, a guy that can’t even get on the field. I’m sure every team has guys like that on the payroll, 7 figure guys that they see a future with but that barely play. Then you count up the actual starters.

Even your lowered expectation has not been met. Amazing this is a debate that we should settle... In my 6 decades that is not how Bama has become a blue blood decade after decade. Only time I was not sure Bama would find their way back in my decades of watching Bama was during the Shula years.

Alabama fans stressed him out. Looked like Saban last year at Alabama.
Alabama's a pressure cooker of a job. It's a challenge every coach faces when they come here. It's amplified by 100 when you follow a legend. It's the same way at Ohio State, Kentucky in basketball (look at Mark Pope. He is going through it), and LSU in baseball.

I give him credit for coming in to accept that challenge and wanting to do it his way. Alabama got in a ton of trouble trying to find the next Bear Bryant after he retired. So I appreciate DeBoer having his own identity and doing things his way, instead of copying Saban. But it has to work. If it doesn't, you're going to feel immense pressure that you've never felt before.

Might not be fair, but that's the way it is. Each program and fan base is different.
