I think kids will take tough coaching if you are just as tough defending them from criticism and other outside negative influences. If you convince them that itā€™s all a battle and youā€™re all in it together I think someone with a tough attitude can make it work.

And I don't know about anyone else, but this video gives me chills and makes me so emotional every time I watch it...which has been dozens upon dozens of times.

I think some will. I know every generation says the younger generation is different, and we are to a point, but man it seems people are so thin skinned, focused on me, and just generally get their feelings hurt easily. We had guys quit but they were the exception. Same in the Navy, a couple quit in my division but not many. I was talking to a recruiter who said it's about 20% lately, I would say ours was 5ish. Point is I feel like you have to be a better judge of character these days and find the ones who won't quit on you but I think it's the only consistent way to win. Well that or have a big 10 schedule.

I mean obviously the money is better but can he, or pretty much anyone, consistently win there? I think I'd rather make a million a year as dc than go somewhere I can't really compete with the upper part of the conference and have to deal with hc issues in a place like that.

I think the Vandy situation is showing that with the right moves, even a lesser SEC team can make some playoff waves on any given season. Do I think long term heā€™d be the answer? No. But very few would.

But the money heā€™d get for trying to make it work is obviously pretty substantial. And thatā€™s hard to turn down. Plus, he started his playing career there. His dad started his coaching career there. Sometimes those ties tend to pull.

I can see that, the ties pulling. Didn't know that part of his history.
I'm not sure who in this day and age could consistently win there, like many other schools, but i guess someone has to collect the check. I'm just not sure what choice I'd make in that situation, guess it's easy to say until you're actually there. I hate losing more than I love winning so it would be hard to go somewhere I wasn't sure I could win but egos come into play as well. I think he has seen what is like being a hc at a lesser/ smaller school guess he should know which he prefers.
